I agree. There is no place for a lack of values, morals and integrity when it comes saying to an innocent citizen exercising their free speech rights being assassinated deserved to be killed. That to me as an employer is grounds for termination as it shows that lack of values and integrity. We simply must not accept this as a society. It is a big deal when we start killing each other for our opinions. I would feel terrible if any American on the left I disagreed with was assassinated. Note we don’t disagree on everything as we are lead to believe. I lean a little more to the Libertarian side. Unfortunately some ideas are really out there.

No! They are government employees. Even if a private school, federal funds go through it. And even if not government employees, they are employees nonetheless and thereby represent their employer. There is so much wrong with the idea that this is a free speech issue.
Academic freedom is one thing but it has been taken to the extreme for too long already. They must live within standards, more than most of us if we are trying to be objective about things.

Free speech means that the government does not arrest or imprison a citizen for speaking political opinions or facts.
Free speech does not allow for purposeful attempts to harm other citizens by lying about them in order to hurt their reputation and to cause harm to them. That is slander (if spoken) or libel (if written.
Any employer can fire any employee if the employee engages in Constitutionally protected free speech that the employer doesn’t like; (I don’t know how that works with respect to the employer’s formal code of conduct). For example, if the employee speaks to colleagues ir outsiders that ‘my employer is a terrible organization’ can typically be fired. Just because he / she was fired doesn’t mean that the government will arrest him / her.

Supposedly there is a letter from Admin explaining why up to 3 persons have lost their jobs this wknd. One of the News Broadcasts is supposed to have a copy of letter but they blurred it only showing the Letterhead from Clemson. There are several publications talking about the thousands of public responses to the Clemson admin wanting action.
It will be interesting to see the response. There were supposed to be Anti-Trump booths setup this week at Clemson as well. Let's see if those happen.

everyone in this thread is attacking was interacting with a Young Republican booth...the young girl did nothing violent,... i dont support the way she handled it or what she said, but for every grieving fan that mr kirk may have, there is someone who feels a sense of relief that he is dead. As for me, I had never heard of the guy until I saw the headlines and then I eventually clicked.

So you would be good with someone teaching your children that laughs and praises the assassination of a public figure. What if it was Kamala that got assassinated on Clemson property trying to address questions from open forum and your childs professors were praising the shooter and laughing saying that K Harris deserved it and lets see who is next?
If you think any teacher, leadership, protector or mentor of children, students or public servant should be able to spew such crap then you will never understand why this is a problem. There is a select few that are infecting impressionable people with bad ideas like killing or hurting others is ok.
So under those terms, no that is not freedom of speech, that is inciting violence and approving domestic terrorism. Praising bad actors by mentors is not acceptable in a public place of learning and when you post your opinions on SM publicly, you will have to deal with your employers policies as they have the right to protect their business as well.

I don’t know, but suspect that Clemson has an employee code if conduct in which public statements which condone violence against a non-violent citizen is considered to be an action that does not reflect the values and mission of Clemson University. I suspect that Clemson’s code of employee conduct allows for the suspension as a form of punishment for an employee who violates the above behavioral standard. Again, I don’t know, but it is reasonably possible that an employee who had violated Clemson’s employee code of conduct on more-than-one occassion may be fired.
Suspended or fired, the Clemson professor subject of this thread won’t be arrested by the government for exercising his Constitutional right to free speech. This is how free speech is protected.

The Code of Conduct angle may certainly be legitimate, but outside of something like that or some kind of unprotected speech (like inciting violence), the government can't fire someone for something they said.

When either a government or a non-governmental entity takes (and uses) it’s power to suppress another citizen who is not employed by the aforementioned entity from communicating his / her political or social opinions, that is a violation of Constitutional right of free speech.
The above suppression is not similar to an employer firing an employee for his exercise of free speech that damages the employer. The employee has no Constitutional protection that forces the employer to keep paying him.
