Haven’t heard someone call someone a crack baby since I was In 5th grade. Maybe work on your roast game. That’s actually not even funny at all

My father played baseball at Clemson. He used to see Pete shooting baskets, all the time. I think Pete was about 10 years old, maybe a little older.

While Nuk Hopkins certainly didn't have as notable of a college career as Pete Maravich, he has had a steller 8 season NFL career with about a dozen different QBs and he's not done yet. He's sure to be in the NFL HOF. And he played basketball in HS and his freshman year at Clemson.

I attended Clemson during his Dad's last coaching year here before they both went off to LSU. I will never forget one Friday night encounter I had with Pete. He had just completed a basketball game playing with the Daniel High school team that night and while they were not to play any other basketball outside of their team play, Pete did show up at the YMCA gym here in Clemson (across from Dan's at the time) somewhere around 11 P.M. to play some additional pick up basketball with mostly college kids including myself. At that time you see the Y gym stayed open til at least midnight on Fridays. To play a pick up basketball game with Pete Maravich on the opposing team ended up being a truly "lifelong memory" never to forget! What a basketball-a-holic he truly was!

account. Sounds just like him to show up at the gym after a friday night game. And the Old Y to boot. That was the place alright. But I wasn't old enough to have had your experience, though the Maraviches were our next door neighbors there on Highland Drive (a couple of blocks above Dabo's present digs).

NOT be a description of the Pistol. Not particularly fast, strong, or even quick by some standards, and certainly not a leaper. What he was, though, was the greatest genius with a basketball, the most skilled - that probably ever lived. Was way ahead of his time. And also an excellent speaker and teacher and sharer of the gospel in his latter years, just before his unfortunate departure. Interestingly, he and Kobe were the same age - 41 - at the time of their passing.

About 6 - 8 months before Pete's death, he and his wife and two children were in Clemson. I was at that time living on Rock Creek Rd. that parallels Highlands. When Pete saw me in he yard, he stopped and we had a nice chat for about 30 -45 minutes. He introduced his wife and children. He was interested in trying to remember his neighbors. He credited his wife for turning his life around. Nis sudden death was a shock.

with him. Actually, he was a miracle self-made athlete. His older Brother Ronnie was bigger, stronger and a better athlete. However, Ronnie rebelled against his Father, while Pete devoted himself to his Dad and the game. Pete carried a basketball around with him as soon as he could walk, and was famous for dribbling all the way to Daniel High. I watch him play first team as a 5ft. 8 guard paired off with a really good athlete Jim Sutherland, who was 6ft. 5in. and was the big star then at Daniel. Jim went on and became a star at Clemson, and was considered good enough defensive to go pro, however he decided on Med. School instead. Pete went on with his Dad, promoted to better jobs to NC State then LSU, and somehow managed to will himself to become 6 ft. 5in. He did have one of the greatest games in the pros ever playing for New Orleans against his former team Atlanta. Then went on as he got older to play for Red Aurbach and the Boston Celtics. Red called him the best ball handler he had ever seen. Still something was wrong as his physical health worsened as he neared 40 and was forced into retirement. Then he got a job at a Christian BB camp coaching and inspiring kids with his skills and strong faith. As well known, he collapsed on the court and died with a heart attack. The reason I say he was a miracle athletic is that the autopsy showed he was born with a hole in his heart, which usually is fatal by time the victim reaches teenage years. I think Pete serves an inspiration model of someone who is dedicated to his sport, wills his way to becoming a great bb player persevering through some really hard times. LIVE ON PETE, YOU WILL BE A LEGEND BB FOREVER.
