One major difference between college basketball and...

16

Jan 30, 2023, 3:44 PM

college football is in basketball you only have to be one of the 68 best teams in the country to get a shot at the national championship, not top 4 like football. I would not worry too much about only being ranked #20 vs #15 or even #10, as long as we stay in the top 68 we should be ok.

That and girls play cbb, which would explain all the crying.***

I remember when Nick Saban wanted to change the rules…

because he was struggling against HUNH teams. That was a low point for him. I'm pretty sure Kirby Smart wanted a 12 team playoff as well, but I haven't heard him mention that in a while either.

Saban disappointed & Kirby impressed, did not know Smart...

could count that high.

Exactly, we should be in the top 68 every year.***

Yep. But we need to win more.

It's my understanding things like the NET are critical to determining the tournament field. We're something like 58th in the current NET, so as crazy as it is, it appears we're very close to being shut out of the tournament if the season ended today.

Gotta win more, including some of the better opponents on the schedule. This team could be NIT bound unless we win more.

To be fair, there are 32 automatic qualifiers through conference tournaments, and you have to assume that probably.... 22-24 of those are not "top 68 teams". So really you need to be in the top 40 - 45 or so I would say to get into the tourney out of 358 teams.

Your point still stands, just clarifying a bit.

Syracuse seems to do it right every year

they win just enough games to get in, then they play for real in the tournament. We need to build that kind of street cred with the NET committee and do the same, that way we do not have to win 23 games to get a 7 seed.

I'm flabbergasted! You made a non sarcastic thought provoking post. Great job! Did you reach out to Judge Keller on how to post something that is entertaining to the reader?

Keep working with him Judge. One day he may be as relevant as you are.

Except that it's not the top 68 that get to go.

There are 32 automatic bids. Win your conference tournament and you're in, no matter if you are ranked #300 or worse.

There are 36 at-large bids. Generally, the 36 best (subjectively determined by the Committee) teams not already in the field as an automatic qualifier will go.

Being #68 almost certainly doesn't get you in, especially if there are some upset conference champions. Being #50 just might. If you're in the top 40, probably. Top 30 almost certainly (unless the Committee rejects you for some "eye-test" reason).

The first 3 months of NCAA Basketball is just practice.

You can lose every single game except those played in March.

If you don’t lose in March you are the National Champions. (Simple formula)

Just win the ACC Tourney and screw the NET, or whatever!

Become one of those automatic qualifiers and quit worrying about committees and polls and such.

You think CBB knows that? It hasn't been part of his strategy in the past.

The problem is if on the last day of the season, #20 gets a Quad 4 win but teams 21-68 have a Quad 1 loss then all of a sudden #20 drops to #69!
