Oktoberfest explained

I have been there decades back when it was fun.
The deal then was the beer and the chicken dance.

Some history as I remember it -
Beer was made and stored in cool caves. This was called Märzen as it was made around then when yeast could ferment.
By October to make room for the new fresh barrels of beer - a festival was held to drink up the old. Ignore that Prince Ludwig crap.

Beer was served in huge tents by beautiful Fraulein as a band played --> a dream come true.

Once myself and a few other local brewers I knew all made Märzen to be consumed at an October party in Waxhaw.
The beer was excellent, the girls were beautiful, not Fraulein, but still beautiful
Here I am dancing with one --

I’ve been a few times, the key is to go on a weekday. Get there when they open and around 3/4pm be at the tent you want to stay in til you’re ready to leave. All tents have 50% first come, first serve free seating and the beer prices were always reasonable for the fact you get a liter. Not to mention great food. Last time I was there was 2022

Went once in 2001 for a week right after 9/11. They actually considered canceling it that year, and they definitely treated Americans better than usual due to the circumstances. This was before the EURO and with the exchange rate beers were around $3. Watched NFL football at an American sports bar on a Sunday and they showed highlights of the Clemson/Ga Tech game. Was invited to sit at a table with an elderly US veteran that had stayed there after WWII reconstruction and married a German lady. He was proud that he never learned to speak German. Drank beer with many different nationalities that sometimes didn't speak English but knew the words to every US song. Seeing hundreds of drunks sleeping it off on the big hill above the tents was a sight to behold. One of the best trips I have ever been on.

That girl in the photo won over a hundred trophies/medals and did the 26 mile Marine Corps Marathon a few times.

What a lot of people don’t know is most of Oktoberfest is actually in September. For example, this year Oktoberfest was from September 20 to October 5.

But I was there for Weiberfastnacht. I was given a loaner tie and received many kisses. And drank many beers.
