OK, so with 4 to play, who else thinks we will go 11-1?

We have three of the last four at home where we haven't lost in a good long while. I'm believing in our chances to go 11-1.
Now, if we do indeed finish 11-1, does anyone think we play for the ACC championship? I'm inclined to say no. I expect FSU to finish 11-1 also.
It would be likely, however, that we get an at-large bid to the BCS. Agree?

IMO we'd be ranked 9ish to 11ish and would get an at large
You will soon see some of those top teams fall out of the picture........somethings gotta give.
HOWEVER if we won out I'll be fine no matter what b/c that means we beat USC.......and that's what I want to see

ACC play. I wouldn't bet on them beating Flarda at this point.
To get an at-large bid, do you have to be ranked in the top 10 of the BCS poll? Could the computers still be killing us bad enough to keep us out of the top 10, or would beating the awesome SCar peecocks elevate us in the computer rankings? I doubt beating Puke will mean very much by the final poll. MD won't mean didly and NCSU won't help that much, either. Only SCar would really matter. How much does beating them improve our computer ranking?

Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC would all have to just fall completely flat on their face for us to move in front of them. I just dont see that happening.

Clemson will be favroed in each of its remaining games....

including the game against USC-lite. All of the remaining games are winnable so finishing 11 - 1 is a very real possibility.
That said, unless FSU stumbles at VT in two weeks, FSU likely finishes with just one conference loss and will represent the Atlantic in the ACCCG.
However, with an 11 - 1 record, I do think an at-large bid to a BCS Bowl is also a possibility. My concern is that the BCS will not look favoribly on Clemson's schedule

I watched the game on television but stayed up drinking about 15 beers. So I'm in the same boat that you're in.

We go as far as our Defense takes us. And as far as I'm concerned I believe we keep making strides on D and finish 11-1. However, I dont think FSU loses another but one can hope.
I think it may be hard for us to get an at large with last years showing but schools in the top 10 should start losing a few which should help our case.

I believe FSU has the toughest test between the two of us

@VT in Blacksburg on Thursday. Granted, VT isnt that impressive this year, but with a win this weekend and with two Duke losses most likely coming that puts them right back in the drivers seat to go to the ACCCG.
The EJ Manuel on the road at NCSU with his team down was not the EJ Manuel we faced. Pretty sure Bud Foster and a rowdy Blacksburg Thursday night crowd can get in his head. The problem is VTs offense still sucks. Hopefully between now and then they figure something out.
I think the best case scenario for us assuming we win out, is FSU demolishes Duke and outplays but barely loses to VT, just because thursday night at blacksburg still carries some weight, we whip the coots and FSU finishes the season beating Florida at home. That would be nice.

beat the chickens this year. They have a very tough defense, much better than FSU. The only way we win is if their offense sputters out - which is entirely possible.

So you think their defense is "much better than FSU"
Oct 26, 2012, 1:18 PM

While most analysts across the country say FSU has the best defense in the nation.
Florida sure looked scared of USuCk's defense.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying USuCk's defense is bad, they are very good aside from some hiccups. A couple very good teams have figured out how to scheme against them and have been successful.
However, to say their defense is better than FSU's, much less "much better than FSU" is more than likely false.

You have solid points, but I think we can get a break
Oct 26, 2012, 1:22 PM
[ in reply to I doubt we lose another ACC game, but I don't think we'll ] |

Vandy and Kentucky had their dline gassed. KY put up points with a freshman backup QB, Vandy barely lost and Shaw nearly broke his shoulder. No-call Pass Int. was also helpful on vandy's last drive.
Now they played better at UGA who's supposed to have good offense, but LSU whose offense is garbage by comparison put up points on them. So I think their team has two modes. They could play bats#it-crazy a la UGA, or they could be lost and spot us several points to go into halftime with the lead a la Kentucky. If the latter case, we'd be up by more than 10.

Chances of getting an at large is slim
Oct 26, 2012, 1:14 PM

There's 4 at large and even a 2 loss ND will get one of them. SEC has their ESPN given right to one (deserved). So that leaves two for Big-12, Pac-12 or ACC runner up. Like someone said above, Pull for ND to beat Oklahoma and USC for that matter.

Imo they have a better first team dline then fsu but nothing else. Also fsu has depth for days while scar has a huge drop off and it shows when their defense gets beat up on in the second half of games. Clemson can when against scar if they can keep it close in the first half. Scar has no depth and players get real tired playing as hard as they do. Ever notice clowney is unstoppable in the first half and then dissappears in the second?

We win out, FSU stumbles again and we win acc...THEN UF finishes with 1 loss, to FSU, but wins the SEC. Uf and Bama have one loss, basically everyone has a loss.
What then?

Not to get to far ahead, but I think the NC State-SC home stand at the end will define the season. I don't see Duke or Maryland having that much of a chance against the Tigers. Maryland is down to a 4th string true freshman QB, and Duke lost by 21 to a VT team that Clemson beat by 21.

I think we win out. However, I dont think we have a chance at a BCS bid this year. But then again, you never know. College football is a crazy sport. Anything can happen. But from what I can figure, right now your Top 25 is pretty much set. There will be 1~2 teams that fall out of the Top 25. But if they fall out, they were at the bottom to start, and were not really a factor. Right now, Clemson is currently ranked 18th in the BCS. Of the 17 teams that are in front of us, 7 of them will be not be able to qualify for the BCS because they would represent a 3rd bid from their conference. (Ie. South Carolina cannot go to a BCS game if Alabama and UF are selected). So that means we are actually sitting at #11, if we win out. There are 10 BCS Spots, but the Big 6 conferences get 1 school each. The Big 10 rep is looking like Michigan, because Ohio State is dirty. So that actually bumps us to #12. This means we are actually 2 spots out. Now I think we are a better Drawl than Rutgers or Louisville. So we can get back to #11. But we are still facing the fact that Clemson would have to be selected over Notre Dame, Ohlahoma or USC/ Oregon State? I think we can jump Oregon State. But not the other 3? And with that, I just don’t see a good path to the Sugar Bowl.
