This just doesn't seem right... UofSC created a new major just to land the #1

recruit in the nation for women's basketball. In the Honors College, no less. She was going somewhere else until they did this for her. Is it really just that simple, you just wave a magic wand and now you have her major? How did Dawn pull this off? 🐓MavericksPops🐓 @TheMarlinShow88 Joyce Edwards wasn’t going to pick South Carolina because they didn’t offer her major. Dawn got the Honors College to create one.

Priorities. When you can't win at football, do whatever you can to feel like you can brag about something.
WBB ain't much, but it's something.

Actually I think it's something to do with with engineering. Not sure, would have to dig a bit more. So I'll give her credit, doesn't sound like underwater basketweaving. But wouldn't something like that require long-term funding, board approval, certification, etc. I don't know, just seemed odd to me. I can't see Dabo or Brad trying to create a new Honors College major just to land one 5-star recruit.

OK I stand corrected lol, but im with you, it seems way to complicated to just land 1 basketball player, even if she is the #1 player.

I believe their honors college offers a “build your own” major program so this is probably being framed this way just to stoke Dawn’s ego.

Yeah, just creating a whole new specific engineering major on a whim like that for a basketball recruit seems pretty outlandish to me, so something along the lines of that makes it sound more believable. Coaches these days have shown they'll go to ridiculous lengths to get recruits though, so maybe I shouldn't even be surprised. Props to the girl for caring about her academics though, hope she can maintain that good attitude and find success (even at South Carolina.) But imagine the look on the face of whoever it was in the engineering department who got a call from Dawn asking them to create a new major so she could land a recruit.

I think maybe this is just a good recruiter listening to what a key recruit wants to do academically, and having the right discussions internally to ensure that such a program can achieve that for the prospect. Impressive, really. I think people saying that she created a new major aren’t correct.

We visited several colleges with my daughter where they discussed being able to craft your own degree of study. It isn’t as unusual as it seems.

Be careful with this one...CCC has some very creative majors for football players! Maybe one day all athletes will be students first then athletes, future felons, or missing fathers secondarily! Then the education will mean more than NIL or the transfer portal...how do those who keep transferring get credit for underwater basket weaving, drivers Ed or rap music 101! ,
