They had awesome burritos, and I could go for one now! Does anybody know when, and why it closed?

Speaking of that, does Edgar's still sell beer? Can you

still use the TigerCard (or whatever it was called) to buy it? That very much felt like free beer….I had money on the card and had to spend it! It was like you never had to pay a tab until you didn't have money for CFA!

It closed because the owner just didn't want a restaurant anymore.

Another post about the "fabric of downtown Clemson" being ruined? If places like Ancheaux's were that great, people would have chosen them over Moe's and Chipotle. But they didn't. People speak with their dollars.
Plus, national chains don't change the cool vibe of downtown Clemson. It's still really unique and charming.

I agree, Judge. Just was craving A burrito from there. Moes and Chipotle are good as well, just thought Ancheaux's was unique.

Why is it ironic?

Stores like Judge Keller's (no relation) do just fine despite the evil chains. Why? Because they are obviously doing something right and are still desirable to consumers.
Ancheaux's had a chance to keep its domination of the market, and people evidently preferred Moe's and Chipotle. If a business can't compete with the competition, we shouldn't blame the competition, but question just how good the local establishment was in the first place.

Gotta disagree. Chains definitely change the character of an area.

Clemson's downtown just looks more an more like other downtowns now. You basically have all the same restaurants as every other place.

Those chains coexist just fine with many unique local establishments
Apr 15, 2016, 1:36 AM
|
|
such as Mr. Knickerbocker, Tiger Sports Shop, M.H. Frank, Judge Keller's, Calhoun Corners, Pixue and Bill's, etc.
Expecting no chains is being ridiculous. It's 2016, not 1950.

Well, think back to the last time you were there. Were there other people who appeared to not be at work? If so, then other people at there.

It's not a stupid question, I got a +1. Quit trying to start trouble. I asked if anybody knew why it closed, and I got an answer.

Then they opened the mex inspired one downtown. I liked it too, but the one on 123 was superior in my opinion.

It closed because it wasn't very good
Apr 15, 2016, 6:49 AM

It had a cult following but not large enough to sustain it. The burritos were soggy as another poster pointed out. I'm all about supporting local time places and hardly ever go to national chains but I'm not going go if it's not that good. Moes opened across the street in the mid 2000s and simply had better food.
