Offensive play calling

Sep 14, 2022, 1:21 PM

I’ve read a few posts indicating that Dabo has taken some offensive play calling responsibilities from Streeter.

Is this legit or just unfounded gossip?

If it’s legit, how does it work and who’s calling the plays?

Idk how true it is. Last year we saw Dabo showed us he can keep his team engaged even when they aren't playing for a title. This year I think Dabo shows the world how good he actually is at the x's and o's. If the defense botches the screens on saturday again, I look for Dabo to take over some of the calls for defense too.

If you are not interested on gossip, ask Dabo, not TigerNet.

I'll go with Gossip, we did score on first 4 drives with starting QB. second half woes seem to be more of an issue with line and receiver separation. Not to mention the fact that Furman / La Tech play calls are almost always going to be more vanilla than other games.

Second half issues largely due to inability of defense to get off the field, a muffed punt, two illegals, two drops, and an interception. Other than these things, we were fine.

1) no body on this bored can answer this question
2) A HC giving input on plays or formations or both is common across CFB

Hope it’s not true. You either trust the guy you hired to make the calls or you don’t.

Depends on your point of view when hiring and the expectation and motivation of the guy getting hired.

No absolute or right answer.

You could have a HC who is big picture type person before and during the game...focusing on ensuring that OC's plan is solid going in and that some potential Defensive adjustments or situations are considered before hand and then not dropping deep into the weeds during the game. Focusing more on game managemnet type stuff... when to go to the hurry up etc.

That HC would probably be of the mindset to hire an OC who expects and is given much freedom over the scheme and certainly playcalling (maybe even so far as 100% freedom to hire-fire offensive staff). This guy probably would chafe and not tolerate well a lot of detailed micromangement.

OR somewhere in between. OR the 100% opposite.

I hope the play calling won’t continue to be offensive.***

Dabo wears a head set for a reason. And it ain’t to keep his ears warm!

My guess is that a lot goes thru him.

Who knows for sure but,

If you see a HC with what looks like a waffle house menu that he is looking at all the time, its not a stretch to think that he's more than occasionally involved in calling the game.

Also, when it takes a long time for the play to come in from the sidelines, or when you get delays of game it can be an indicator of multi-headed playcallin. (call comes down...gets overruled...OC rebutts ... etc.)
