North - South for the ACC
Aug 9, 2021, 11:38 PM

|
I've said for years that the ACC should be dividend into north and South Regions. Split the state of North Carolina and every one north goes in the north and everyone south goes in the south.
South Division
Clemson Georgia Tech Florida State Miami North Carolina NC State Louisville
North Division
Wake Duke Virginia VT Boston College Syracuse Pitt
If the ACC expanded then could change

Then you could pretty much call the south the A league,

The ACC would never do that. The North division is dreadful and borderline unwatchable.

So it would be just like the SEC in the EAST and West- one good and one bad- and one team that carries the load!

I also think a North and South divisional alignment is more favorable than the current configuration, but I read somewhere a while back that both UNC and Duke will balk at such a move unless they are in the same division. So the best move, IMO, would be to put North Carolina and Duke in the North( making it a bit stronger as UNC is better than Wake) and Wake in the South, or switch Louisville with Duke. Again, just my opinion, but Louisville should be more aligned with the North anyway. Oh, one final thought. Thanks for not including Notre Dame in you realignment. If they do decide to join, then consider them in the North before adding a 16th team.

The North Division in the OP scenario is so pathetically weak football wise its almost a Bowl Subdivision (1AA like) conference. No way the ACC does this.

I am wondering what difference it makes how the teams are aligned unless UNC VT FSU or Miami decide to step up and be a top 10 team

Just eliminate permanent divisions

schedule based on average ranking over past time period (say 5 years). Change schedules every two years (so you have home and home with each team.) Divisions change every two years based on rankings as well.

No Divisions is the way to go. I like last year's format.

Honestly, should an 8-5 UNC team play in the ACCCG instead of a better Atlantic team?

Or bring in two more teams above the NC-Va. line then you can put all 4 NC schools in the South with CU-GT-FSU and Miami.

OP - as someone else said, "that would be dang near unwatchable" in terms of football!
Now, add in a scenario where Penn St and ND joined the league and you would maybe be able to do that. Making sure you keep N. Carolina and Duke in the same division.
*** I like the idea of no divisions honestly! Top two teams. If they played during the regular season and some other team who avoided both get in the championship game; well "just make sure you win that regular season game"! That other team goes on to be exposed in the championship game; but still gives you credit because they are likely going to be a ranked team!
