Was DJ guaranteed two full years of being starter?

When DJ was being recruited he knew he was going to be behind Trevor. Any chance that as part of the recruiting that Dabo guaranteed he would see two full years of being the starter? It's strange that the moment DJ is pulled is after 2 complete regular seasons, which is all Dabo good have made good on, since the championship game was not a given.

This would also explain Dabo's reluctance to leave Cade in for more than 1 series, so the fans don't go into an uproar. Also, keep in mind that Dabo thought DJ was the next generational talent at the time. I guess he was hoping to scoot along these past two years without too much collateral damage once he realized he made a wrong decision and the plan all along was to put Cade in after South Carolina.

No coach makes that type of deal.

That doesn't sound like a Dabo move, or any coach for that matter. DJ, or any other player, would not believe it possible to predict what will happen.
With DJ on the team as a true freshman, it appeared we were set once TL left. Not a good situation to recruit a big time QB to be a backup.
The following year we got a commitment from Cade. TP was the back up last year. He wasn't ready. This year, DJ was benched against Syracuse and even ND, then replaced for the ACC Championship and the Bowl Game. The facts don't support your conclusion.
No, Coach Swinney didn't promise DJ anything other than a scholarship and an opportunity to be the starting Clemson QB.

If Dado would just admit is mistake, all the fans would stop coming up with their own theories.

There's nothing to admit. Again, a reasonable argument can be made for Dabo starting Uiagalelei. It had more or less worked for most of the season, you you can reasonably understand why he would not make the switch.

And there was nothing in Cade’s post game interview (on field - I haven’t seen the sit down presser yet) that gave any indication that he felt otherwise. If he’s ok, I’m ok.

Cade said in post game that he got no reps with the 1's

from fall camp to week 14. That's literally unheard of. the backups almost always get reps with the 1s at least to some degree to prepare them. Just very odd to me.

I haven’t listened to that interview yet. I’ve heard he said that but I want to hear the full context. My comments were regarding the on field interview with the sideline reporter right after the game. I can only comment on what I saw. I agree that seems really odd. Almost wonder if he meant he hadn’t had any reps with the #1s in games. That would make more sense but like I said I haven’t heard that interview yet.

It was right after the game at the broadcast booth. Not sure where to find it. Richt asked him how much work he got with the 1s and he said this past week was the first reps he got with the 1s since Fall camp and he got about 30% this past week.

People forget that Taisun went into the Georgia Tech game and sparked the offense before breaking his hand and having some sort of shoulder injury (tightness is what it was called officially but Dabo didn't disclose anything else) that forced him out. We heard the same "not ready" about him, until he moved the ball when DJ couldn't, but we never got to see what he could do because of the injury, and Dabo never looked down the bench to find him after that.

Do you remember kyle parker? some people theorized at the time (2010) that dabo made a promise he could start at clemson if he didnt go pro in baseball. Season was not very good including a loss to sc
Then in the bowl game tajh was put in. Tajh mostly sat the entire year. In the bowl game he showed a spark but we still lost. Made everyone wonder what would have happened if he had played more.

After that game Dabo gave one of my favorite speeches of all time. Promised to fix the program and took accountability. Most people dont like a speech after a loss but i loved this one.

Also you don’t want to lose the locker room by replacing a QB at the wrong time or you want win any games. DJ did not live up to expectations but the situation had to be managed well. Dabo was on the inside and knew the pulse of the team and did a good job
