NIL , Portal and Gambling And Alchol

Laugh all you want but the portal has had a detrimental effect on CFB and Basketball and Baseball! Nil as currently designed has ruined college sports and unless changed will totally kill it! Gambling is a huge problem and many people on this board are really upset with Dabo because you bet your money and lost it! The FBI is making a huge announcement this morning concerning crime families and betting How far into sports will it reach? I think it will not just be NBA .

The portal and NIL ruined CFB as we once knew it. Heck, as for betting, I’m not upset with Dabo at all ..it’s been a “lock” to take the points with the other teams we were supposed to trounce ..

If we lose… well least I made some money on it.

Alcohol steals kills and destroys . It ruins families and it makes people bet more money and lose more money and a few win. It adds to corruption! Really if you are thirsty there are plenty of drinks to quench your thirst that do not poison your body and kill your brian. And now Clemson just joined in a found one more way to take money from people! If a kid does not get to eat no big deal! If a few people have to die from drunk drivers that’s ok. If people get drunk and act stupid and start fights and ruin an otherwise fun event that’s cool. They got your money! Yeah I know that’s old fashioned and I am an old geezer and all that but I am also correct!

Easy there, Pastor Doom. Clemson selling a couple of beers at the game isn’t the second coming of Sodom and Gomorrah. You act like Dabo’s handing out tequila shots at the Paw.
If someone can’t handle a drink without wrecking their life, that’s a personal problem, not a Clemson problem. The rest of us grown adults can enjoy a cold one without turning into gambling drunks or highway menaces.
Clemson didn’t “join corruption,” they joined the 21st century. Every major program’s been doing this for years, the only thing “poisoned” here is your perspective.
So relax and grab a sweet tea. Go Tigers

I thought it was pretty funny myself.
Old timer look… you’re entitled to your opinion as anyone else is… but don’t go all Old Testament on us. We’re mostly all grown adults here and have managed to stay alive well into adulthood.
I think most here know how to have a drink and still act like they got some sense. Me personally… never was a drinker and still don’t to this day but to each their own.

Change is hard, especially for us older ones. We just have to accept it and move on. On the other hand, if you are really, really, really lucky, you will live to be an old man screaming at the sky. I hope you are able to remember this when and if you reach his age.

The nfl gets to put rules in place... college does not.
Well.. actually the fans are responsible. Nil money comes from fans.
If they stop giving money to kids, there would be no nil. Blame the desperate uga fans who will do anything for wins to compensate for their small ding dongs.

Oh my Lord another person who has not watched football this fall. I dare you to watch games Saturday and find one that is "ruined". What you have to get over is that just because nobody likes the fact that Dabo has not used the Portal, except to get our best defensive player, football is not ruined. Watch games and you will see 22 players on the field that is still 120 yards long and using the same ball that has always been used.

I have watched the games. Sure players stop playing. They can move at will to whoever pays the most. They may give effort or they may not. Plus it is unsustainable . People will get tired of giving the money!!! It is just a pro game now and that’s fine I guess but pro teams need to make money and not just pay players who do not have contracts.

I think we can all agree that the portal and NIL have completely changed college sports, and not for the better. Some would argue that it’s great that the kids are getting paid what they’re worth now thanks to NIL, and there is more parity within CFB leading to more entertaining games during the season and fewer dynasties. However others might say now the kids have no allegiance to any particular college or university, and money is now the predominant or only guiding factor for where they attend and play.
As for gambling and alcohol, both are addictive and yes can ruin lives. Addiction is a horrible thing. I say that as a social beer drinker, but I don’t gamble.
I think most of us here realize that although the portal and NIL have changed things and we might not like the changes, that’s how the game is played now and if Clemson chooses not to play using those new tools, we will be left behind. We’re already seeing it after 5 years of the changes being in effect.
It sucks but it is what it is. I love Clemson University and I don’t want to see it fade into obscurity. Football brings in big bucks to the University and attracts more students. It’s a business now.

No sir not at all! But capitalism has to work on both sides a contract needs to benefit both sides of the party. Something needs to be provided for the money being spent and everyone needs to play by the same rules! I am not sure you know what capitalism is or if you just like to make silly jokes.

You sound like a Facebook uncle who just discovered ESPN this morning. NIL didn’t “ruin” college sports, it exposed the fact that universities, coaches, and networks were making billions off unpaid talent for decades. Players finally getting a slice of the pie isn’t the end of the world; it’s basic fairness.
And blaming Dabo’s struggles on NIL or the portal is just lazy. Programs that evolve win and programs that dig their heels in and preach about “doing it the old way” get left behind. The game changed, and while Dabo’s quoting scripture, Kirby and Saban were recruiting through reality.
As for gambling, that’s a you problem, not a college football problem. Don’t lose your rent money and call it a national crisis. Clemson didn’t steal your parlay, bad picks did.
So maybe let’s stop pretending the FBI’s coming for Vegas over your busted ticket and start facing the real issue: college football evolved, and Dabo didn’t.
Go Tigers!

Just look at what happened today.
ESPN is ignoring the story. The fact they have a huge contract with the NBA and they encourage and support gambling on their network has nothing to do with the fact they are ignoring the story.
Look how easy it is, if you are an athlete to make sure you get the under on a prop bet. And, you tell you buddy to place a bet on that. Nothing like the multi-million dollars bet in the major sports books. Just you and your buddies making a few bucks. Nobody is harmed, right?
