Nick Schuessler

OK, I'm going to state the obvious. Nick was 3rd string to Deshaun and Cole Stoudt last season and we all know how things(for the most part) went with Cole. I'm skeptical to believe he can lead this team if DW gets hurt. I hope he proves me wrong, but I hope Tucker Israel or Kelly Bryant can step forward and NOT let the talent level drop significantly if DeShaun were to get hurt!! This offense seems to have the potential to be one of the best ever at Clemson and my greatest hope is that the only time our back up is needed is in a mop-up situation!!

Unless byrant makes huge strides during the summer no way he isn't 2nd team. Nick was by far the best qb in the spring game.

I went to 3 of wrens games last year and Kelly Bryant is the real deal . If he learns the play book he will beat out Nick.

the question is not is one of them better, but is it worth wasting a redshirt. Even if they are better, you can burn a redshirt anytime. don't waste them if you don't need them.

if they are great they usually don't stay all 4 years or 5 years. I guess it depends how good they are to an extent.

No doubt Bryant is the future, I'm sure.
I was saying.... If Watson stays healthy, it won't matter who the back up is.

Well you see what happened with Cole in the bowl game with Streeter coaching him. I think the coaches know far more than we do. You will know in 56 days who is redshirted.

If the unforseen should happen,I'm sure there will be some opportunities for Deon Cain. This guy is off the charts as a receiver and as a QB. He was a 5 Star QB in HS.

It will be interesting to se what the new QB coach can do with Nick. I feel good about that. I have yet to be impressed with Bryant. He may be a lot better than what I have seen but, thus far, he has a loooong way to go! This ain't Wren High! Israel has an edge on Bryant imo, but he too is far from being a winning college QB.

I have never seen Bryant play, so you know way more than I know. Here is a question for you. Let's say Cooper comes in next year and seems solid where he may be the heir apparent to Watson, or Israel seems like a stud, do you think Bryant may switch positions?

last season. He looked better in the Spring game. I still think there is something to Cole 'paying his dues' and play time. I don't think it's as clear cut as Nick < Cole < Watson....

U are honestly one of the dumbest posters on this site. I have listened go u bash chad morris and say how terrible he was with Cole since last season. It wasn't chad morris fault that Cole was horrible. Cole was just a bad qb. Plain and simple. Tell me why tajh was so good and set about every Clemson passing record with chad morris. Or tell me why DW was so good and put up huge points when he was in the game with the same players as cole. I know your gonna say that chad morris broadcasted Coles "20 plays" against gt and that was why he did so bad, cuz you've said that 2432 times. But in reality, that did not matter one bit. A middle school coach could defend our offense when cole was in the game, he could only manage a few plays, not chads fault. Then your gonna say "what about the bowl game, look how good he did without chad morris". He didn't play that great in that game either. Take away the screen pass Scott took to the house, and the TD by mike Williams, and cole would have only passed for about 200 yards with 1 TD. Both of those guys took short gains and made them great plays, that had nothing to do with cole. Oklahoma was also ranked in the 100s in pass defense. A high schooler could hqve passed for 200 against them. And it took a month of game planning for cole not to be a dumpster fire. The point of this is not to bash cole, he did the best he could, but to put to bed your idiotic theory that the only reason cole was bad was cuz of chad morris. Absolutely dilusional.

So Schuessler may be the type who needs more direct development but he's got Streeter now to do that without disruption. The way he played this spring showed me he has made big improvements. He will never be at the level of Israel or Bryant. But he can still be a solid #2.

Cole looked good in the spring game last year and we all know how that turned out. I know nick has more experience now, but he couldn't even help us last year when cole was horrible. IMO, no way he can lead us this year if dw4 goes down. If that happened, he would come in the game, struggle, and then one of the freshmen will replace him and never look back. Just my opinion.

Here's my take, for what it's worth.
If Watson stays healthy ALL SEASON, the back up won't matter much. And pretty sure both freshman will redshirt.
Question is... LIKE YOU STATED, what if... what if the un thinkable happens; Watson goes down, and misses a lot of games? Therefore, I don't think the answer is Schuessler. I am quite sure of it.
In that case, I hope Bryant is ready.

I'm from Texas and I say it's a non-issue because DW4 does his Ironman impression this year and all is right with the world. No #2 needed.
