What happened to Jordan Roper?

Jan 4, 2015, 8:50 AM

His freshman year he was a consistent 3 point threat, knocked down a bunch of short range jump shots too. He did about the same last year as well. He was never a good ball handler, and I never expected him to be, but having his shooting ability gave us a legitimate threat from the outside.

Fast forward to this year and it's like he wants to be the do it all point guard when he is in, and he turns the ball over every other possession. Also the shots he does take simply are not going in, and from his body language on the court it seems he has lost all confidence...

Factor in nnoko is having a bad case of stone hands, and our bench is just not performing well at all, I'm not sure what to do if I was brownell. Our main scorers are Harrison and blossomgame, and they just aren't consistent enough to rely on as a team if you ask me. We'll see how the season goes, I really enjoy the basketball team and go to all of the home games but it's not looking positive right now sadly

Confidence is a big part. The major thing is our coaching. The offense has no movement. High screens are executed slowly and missed. Players stand their like its a gym pickup game. So many things were bad last night and it's not just about UNC being better.

Roper under another coach would be fine

Another coach... Really?

Defend your opinion. How do you know?

Original poster said it well. What is Coach BB to do? His players are near the skill level... Consistent skill level as his competition. The team lost much more than just one player in KJ.

Your coach BB what would you do? Or if you were new coach with exact same team what would you do?

NOT near skill level as competition***

I take it you're not a basketball fan.

Not sure about that. A 5'11" guy who can't handle the ball..

is a big liability.

Very tough to watch right now and was wondering the same thing about Roper. He was pretty good his freshman year and thought if he improved year to year we could have a pretty decent player on our hands but he has totally regressed.

I hate to call for coaches to get fired but we need to do something to turn this program around. If you bring in the right coach you can win at Clemson. Maybe we can't keep that coach forever as they might want to go to one of the elite programs around the country but you worry about that when you get there.

More than likely...

the ones who are saying, KEEP BRAD.
Are the ones who could care less about basketball, and are
basicly waiting for the bottom to fall out of it.

Or maybe we're the ones who actually go to a game (or every single one) and have a clue what we're talking about.

"Stone hands" is a trait or talent (lack thereof, act.), not a "case". You can improve it some, like shooting ability, but you either have good hands or you don't. I played too many years with too many people not to know this.

When he first got here I observed the "stone hands" and knew this would be with him (not that this takes a lot of insight)

Towards the end of last year nnoko was becoming moderately effective low post, nothing crazy but he was a good tool for the offense. This year he can't catch a thing, and doesn't seem like he's putting in the same amount of effort.

So "news flash", it's not like he didn't get worse as he has certainly regressed a bit

VerY easy to diagnose Roper. If you take his left hand away on the dribble he has nothing. I was shocked that it took some of the coaches I so often hear described as genI uses on TV so long to pick that fact up. But last year they finally started to catch on. Other than spotting up for a wide open jump shot, Roper brings nothing else to the table.

Sorry dudes but if you play 22 minutes as a freshman, and 4th in scoring . Then sophmore yr drops to 19 but has a consistent role still 3rd on the team in scoring. Then, jr year you move him to only point and tell him to get assists and you give that.. why do you think hes been figured out? They want him to be Rod too. The only game he played significant minutes his numbers were exactly like Halls and the next game he played 3 minutes. His minutes went from 20 to less than 10 with no real reason. You took a efficient player and changed his role. Dont blame him if he is doing what he is asked. You have whatthe coach wants a semi big slow team. With no players with the ability to create their own shot. The one he had he moved him to point told him to draw people to him and pass the ball to bigs that cant catch. Then take him out because hes turning the ball over. Yeah, its Ropers fault .. and to the one guy who thinks he knows which hand Roper uses. His percentages are higher on the right side of the court. Ineffective? Starters ars playing 30 minutes per game... why are you looking at players that arent playing

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Personally...

Jan 4, 2015, 4:56 PM [ in reply to Newsflash for ya ]

Brad does a GREAT JOB with DEFENSE....really, I will give him that.
And yes, he's probably a great guy....Some of these Tigernet ppl really
like to hear that-lol

But he seems lost on offense, maybe he needs a player developer who can help
with offense.

Then...

who knows.
