They got that name was given to them by a Raleigh radio sports announcer who did the NC State radio network during their spectacular rub to the 1983 National Championship. They won three games to gat the ACC Championship and six games during March Madness playoffs culminating in an improbable win over Houston.. I think they were underdogs in everyone of those games. The radio announcer also called them the Cinderella team. When the final shot went in to clinch the National Championship game he yelled “Nc State wins, the glass slipper fits”.
During halftime of the Houston game my wife ran next door to check on her elderly mother and While running back across the driveway she tripped, fell face to concrete and busted her upper lip, cutting it clear through to her teeth. I grabbed a wash cloth and some ice , put her on the couch and told her we would go to the hospital after the end of the game. When we got to to the hospital the nurses were giving me grief an the Doctor said that had we brought her immediately then we would have had to wait because he wouldn’t have left home until the game eas over. Our son came home from Clemson that weekend with his roommate who was also from Raleigh and stayed to see the Monday night Championship game. Of course they went on campus to watch the game with friends and the wild celebration afterwards. After the essentially all-nighter celebration they ,much to their parents serious concerns, headed back to Clemson early Tuesday morning.
