Clemson baseball

Jun 20, 2022, 12:49 PM

I have sone concerns about our new coach, but none of those have to do with baseball. As a baseball guy he was a home run hire. Pardon the pun!

Baseball recruiting is nuts. First there are the structural hurdles due to ridiculous and archaic NCAA rules. Then of course there’s the fact that you’re competing with professional baseball. How many times have we had a top-five recruiting class and almost none of those guys end up enrolling. Unlike other sports, signing day is meaningless in baseball. What matters is how many of those kids actually end up on campus.

Bakich had a reputation as a great recruiter at Vanderbilt and Michigan. At Michigan in particular, a place that’s very difficult to recruit given the weather and culture, he has a reputation for finding diamonds in the rough and developing that talent.

He seems to be great at the two things we need most. Recruiting and player development. He also has a style of play that I think will be enjoyable to watch and exciting.

I thought his press conference was fantastic and I have watched other videos of him speaking. When he talks about players and relationships and the culture of the program it’s impossible to not be impressed and frankly he sounds like the Dabo of baseball.

Your concerns are the same at all schools. They all are having to deal with it except Vandy. Vandy has figured it out. Wish we could do as they do.

My concerns don’t have anything to do with baseball.

Jun 20, 2022, 1:31 PM

Which I made clear if you reread my OP.

There are some things he has said publicly that could lead one to believe he’s woke but I have watched numerous videos and have a better feel for the context of some of the comments so I’m not as concerned as I was and given the way he seems to love Clemson and looks like a great baseball hire I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"Woke"? Thank goodness you're willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Isn't it about time for group therapy on the ward?

Because people on the right are tolerant .

We’re not like you tools on the left. You love to talk about tolerance but you wouldn’t know it if it slapped you.

Exactly my initial thoughts too LowCountry I have since

changed my feelings after learing more about him and hearing him. Excited for the season.

Some things were posted about his comments

Jun 20, 2022, 3:55 PM

But once you see the interviews where he made those comments you realize that in context they’re very different.

I think it’s hilarious that anyone can read what I posted and think that I’m not impressed with the guy and happy that he is our coach. I read some of these comments and I am saddened by the ignorance and lack of reading comprehension.

Step off the roof and give the guy a chance. Baseball recruiting is what it is and the NCAA has nothing to do with it. All you have to do is look at games and there are 500 kids that look the same and have similar talent and all we have to do is recruit better pitchers.

Some folks just won't allow anyone to disagree with them. Why even post at all ?

Clearly reading comprehension isn’t a strong suit for you.

Jun 20, 2022, 3:28 PM

I said I watched a bunch of interviews with him and his comments that a lot of people on here had a problem with I think aren’t as bad as they think with a little more context. I’m absolutely giving a guy a chance. I even praised his coaching ability. It’s you people that don’t have any tolerance or acceptance unless people think exactly the way you think. I’m being completely open minded. You’re the one being judgmental.

How old are you?

Jun 20, 2022, 3:26 PM [ in reply to Re: Clemson baseball ]

The NCAA doesn’t have anything to do with it?

There really should be an IQ test to post online.

You seriously need to educate yourself. There are discussions about this online all the time. Listen to a little sports radio. Good God the man even talked about how hard recruiting is because of the NCAA in his press conference as a new head coach. Anyone with two brain cells that knows anything about college baseball knows the NCAA is a huge part of the problem. Why do you think some schools like Vanderbilt have a big advantage over other schools? Because of the ridiculous rules.

I completely agree with your take on Bakich. He is a really good fit for Clemson. So good to have someone again who appreciates and embraces the history and tradition of Clemson baseball. Very impressed with Schnabel his top assistant he is bringing with him. He hasn’t made a decision on a pitching coach yet. If it turns out to be John Pawlowski, this staff could rival the best staffs of Wilhelm and Leggett.
Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pawlowski would be a great addition to the staff for numerous reasons

Jun 20, 2022, 4:00 PM

It would be great to have him back in Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe he would be a great pitching coach, but he hasn't done

Jun 21, 2022, 8:49 AM

much the past ten years, as a head coach!
