6-4-1-a

A player of the receiving team within the boundary lines attempting to catch a kick, and so located that he could have caught a free kick or a scrimmage kick that is beyond the neutral zone, must be given an unimpeded opportunity to catch the kick (A.R. 6-3-1-III, A.R. 6-4-1-V, VI and IX).

We never an opportunity to catch the kick because of how and where the ball was kicked.

the alabama kick tonight was legal...however, had one of our players thought to call for a fair catch, before the alabama player caught the ball in the air, without it first touching, the ground, it would have been a penalty and we would have gotten possession of the ball at the spot of the foul

the way we lined up created the inability to make a catch...

I know that's unpopular, but Saban saw that and exploited it. It's not up to the kicking team to give us an opportunity to catch it.
