Mock Draft

Apr 26, 2012, 9:14 AM

Is it just me or is everybody else gettIng tired of these mock drafts and telling players that they are a guarantee first round draft pick. This is the second year in a row that we lost one of our main guys because these "experts" predictions. Then they lose a couple of millions because they don't get drafted til the 2nd or 3rd round. I don't think Bowers would have left if he knew he was going to drop that far down and the defense would have been a lot better. Now we lose Allen and the same crap seems like its going to happen again.

I'll step off my soap box now, still a little sore that Allen left but i know he has to do what's best for him.

Go Tigers!!!

After the top 5 it's a crap shoot

Apr 26, 2012, 9:26 AM

you've got no idea what some teams will do. Case in Point, Tebow and Bowers. Tebow was considered a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Broncos took in in the 1st. There was talk about Daquan being the No. 1 overall and they took hin after Jenkins. I put no stock in what the mock drafts says after the top 5-10. There's just no way to tell what some teams will do. If Allen, branch or Thompson last until late 2nd early 3rd, I'll be well and truly shocked.

Broncos tooks Tebow in the first

Apr 26, 2012, 10:47 AM

because Josh McDaniels was one of the worst drafters in the last 20 years in the league.

I like Tebow, but that's a terrible pick, along with many others McDaniels made.

But yeah I agree. Who would've thought Christian Ponder would have gone in the top 10 last year?

Their projected draft status would be more accurate if their measurables were accurate to begin with. The fact that Allen turned out to be 6'3" rather than the 6"4" at which we listed him hurt his status as much as his relatively slow 40 time. The same thing has happened with several of our basketball players. I don't know if we really measure them or whether we just accept their word on things like height.

I really don't care if Allen is 6'4'', 6'1'' or 6'10''...look at his film...he was the most dynamic TE in the country last year and the folks with the Mackey award saw fit to honor him as such...whoever gets him, rather it be late first, in the second or even in the third round, will be getting a future pro bowler

I think he will be a good NFL tight end, but being 6"3" makes him more of a gamble at that postion. That's why the Stanford tight end, who is 6"6" has moved past him. Everyone is looking for the next Vernon Davis or Gronkowski.

I believe Davis also ran the fastest time in combine history for a tight end. Before running that time, he was considered a late first round draft choice.

The fact of the matter is though if Allen came back for another season and then went to the draft it is very likely he would be taken in the same spot he will be this year. He has proven all he came possibly prove as far as in game situations are concerned. It's things like height and overall top speed that are hurting him which are very unlikely to change in a year. I think he mad a smart choice to go to the NFL if for no other reason than avoiding a big injury next season as a college player. I also think we are not taking a huge drop off with Brandon Ford at tight end next year. With that being said I will miss watching Dwayne. Go Tigers!

bowers

Apr 26, 2012, 11:28 AM

the only reason bowers fell was because of his knee..

based off the evaluations of his talent he was a top 5 pick and the mock would have been pretty accurate

most players whos knees indicate a potentially very short career wouldnt be drafted at all so that speaks very highly of daquan to still go as high as he did

bowers should have left..staying another year could of possibly damaged his knee even more and his stock couldnt of been any higher
