Another perspective

I think we'll feel a lot better when we view it this way. Our offense:
  • was hamstringed by the purple jersey tag, which took away 1/3 of the RPO
  • played without our top back and without several top options at WR
  • intentionally played very vanilla as to not give away much to next year's opponents
  • faced what is believed to be a TOP TEN defensive unit nationally
  • yet scored two offensive touchdowns and was on the doorstep of another, or at least three points

Both of his picks were tipped balls, and the goal-to-go was a ball he should have held onto so that we would at least get three points. He is seeing that play every night in his dreams for a while, so that lesson will be taught over and over. Next season if we see that situation, he will be looking for defenders before throwing that. Another play he is probably seeing on repeat is the underthrown ball that would have certainly been a TD. The spring game was a great learning experience.

I'm pretty satisfied with it looking back. Vizzina probably doesn't feel great about the game, but Helms should. He did a good job of managing the offense and will only gain confidence with PT against Charleston Southern. (Hopefully we are rolling and he gets in a series or two against Duke.)

Agree, good for a spring game.
Dabo should look for an impact wide receiver in the spring portal, not just another receiver. Otherwise, kicking game looked good, some great punts and kicks. Cade will be fine….
Along with our Defense, I can’t wait for the season. Conditioning and injuries will be the key in 2023. Looking for a great season!

Go Tigers, Beat Dook!

Sounds like Streeter had his hands tied. Also sounds like he was not a fan of Streeter.

Our top back (Mafah, who's our best running back and the starter atm) did play. I also think our playcalling wasn't vanilla, but was limited, not because we didn't want to "give it away," but because they've only had the offense for a month. I thought the reporter who talked about "opening the playbook" was stupid, because that's not how the air raid works.

But other than that, I agree with you. I'm satisfied with the game considering what we had. I don't know what people expected, but if a bunch of our backups running a new offense put up 300 yards passing on our defense, I'd be much more concerned (and don't forget Trevor in his first spring game only had 100 yards passing with a TD and a pick).

I'm not completely sure I agree 100 % on the best back, but he's really good.

It's funny yall keep saying Mafah is the best running back when Shipley has been the big play guy and single handedly won games over the last 2 years with 9 in the box and safeties eager to come down bc no one and I mean no one respected the QB and the passing game. Mafah is a dog but he's not on Shipleys level.

Mafah's the starter. Deal with it. He was named to the starting squad when Shipley was healthy. You're dreaming.

Link to when he started over a healthy Shipley?

I totally agree on the tagging the QB statement. There were many plays were they barely touched Cade and there was nothing but green grass in front of him. Could have been running plays for him.

Mike Reed…

Is the man….

Cade still needs to get more comfortable…just needs time and no interference. Just him & Riley and he will be ok…

Mike Reed develops his position better than anyone else on the staff imo. Dabo shouldn't let him be stolen away easily.

He'll be perfectly fine and I haven't even got to see the game yet. My own guys had some up and down performances and I'm not worried at all. New offense, just in school for the first time. I'm not worried about Klubnik or Arch, either. I'm more worried about losing one of the great QBs to the portal, either ours or yours. It's just the way it is these days

If he made every play and scored on every drive...

I'd still be upset if he professed to be satisfied with his performance.

The goal of Spring Game wasn't to fill the boys with satisfaction. It was to expose their weaknesses and give the coaches film to develop their skills.

Not worried about Cade at this point - lots of guys out and the obvious quick whistle when he almost certainly had yards that would have been gained on several plays. What excited me was the potential on D. If you watched closely Woods was mostly dominating one on one and the DB's were on point - admittedly against a WR group that would not scare anyone but we have a chance to be GOOD when we get everyone on the field together. Fingers crossed for a better injury year than the last two- we are DUE for some breaks on the injury side after the last two years!
Go Tigers

I want a QB who isn’t at peace with a pedestrian performance.***
