Out of Conference Schedule

Looking ahead... we have some really good out of conference games on the schedule. Now that I've had a chance to see some teams play and see how the rankings have shook out:

- Road game at Georgetown on Saturday will be a measuring stick for the season. They just beat a decent Maryland squad at Maryland and will be looking to build on that momentum.
- West Virginia did not impress me in the one half I watched of theirs, we really should win that game on a neutral court.
- Georgia / Xavier I don't really have a read on.
- At Alabama I'm chalking up as a loss, but it is a great opportunity for a resume building win. I'm still scarred by the barrage of 3's in the Elite 8 game.
- BYU being the #8 team in the country is surprising, I know nothing about their team. But a neutral court game, where BYU has to fly cross country, another great opportunity.
- South Carolina is what it is, I don't think they are any good but they always give us trouble it seems.

All of that to say, I think we'll know a lot more about our team after Saturday's true road game, and have many other opportunities to get solid wins before ACC play.

who lives and dies by the 3-pointer. Control him and you win the game. They do have a couple of seven footers, but neither of them plays very much. Sharavjamts, at 6'9", is their primary big man. He has averaged less than 7-points per game over his career but did have 17 against a very average to below average Southern Miss team last night.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Thanks for the insight, the 3 pointer is the ultimate equalizer in college basketball. You start to miss a few and the other team hits some deep ones, can keep a game closer than it should be...

Hopefully we continue to use our size early on in games and get the ball inside for some easy points, and use the 3 pointer as a supplement instead of a necessity.

Sharavjamts is not a big man for them. He is more of a wing.

The post is really thin for them.

Good points.

HC Ed Cooley has his best team at Georgetown in his 3 years. That is usually when he gets his teams to NCAAT worthy just like he did at Providence.

I think they could get the third best team in the Big East behind UConn and St John's. Very physical athletic team. I have seen them a couple of times.

Think the game is going to be similar test stage to the game at Boise State last Nov. early in the season. Win or lose it is going to make this team better before these other tough games in the non conference season.

I think the Charleston Classic is going down to Clemson and UGA in the championship Sunday, but West Virginia and Xavier have enough talent to upset one of those two teams.

Something to get excited about.

BYU brought back their best players and added a top 2-3 recruit who will certainly be a lottery pick in the NBA next year. He looks like a grown man so far in the games they have played, so I'm not confident they can beat BYU, but I don't think we can fairly judge our team until they get tested.

Xavier lost to Santa Clara, although Santa Clara is one of the better mid majors year in and year out, so maybe not too telling in terms of Xavier's talent (or lackthereof).

As others have said USCjr is living and dying by the 3 this year due to no frontcourt to speak of; they can probably beat anyone and everyone if they get hot. Plus, they have Meechie Johnson, Mike (the Mongolian player who I don't feel like googling the correct spelling of their last hame), and Eli Ellis who was a decent recruit and scored 20 on Southern Miss off the bench. Not a good team necessarily in Southern Miss, but USCjr was down by 8 with 2 minutes left and got hot to tie it. I feel confident Clemson can win, but USCjr has given them fits the last few years, don't underestimate them.

I’ve been observing this team for a long time now …. like 16 years

This team is the smoothest most together group I have ever seen. Not just a couple scorers but everybody can put the ball in the basket. We deep too !

Remember, you read it first on TigerNet !
