But even though this is the same old shenanigans as always, I believe we may have witnessed the final nail in the coffin for college football as king. I don’t think we will actually witness its complete destruction for some time. But when you start to see clear evidence of fallacy in what is supposed to be a true and honest sport of athletes, you can’t un-see it. We’ve ignored a few. It’s beyond done at this point. The outcome on the field did not decide the course of events. At the last minute, Ric Flair jumped in the ring and hit Sting over the back with a chair. And thems the breaks kid.
I hate FSU. I really do. But I can’t stop imagining how I would feel if this had happened to Clemson. I can’t stop thinking about the network money involved in the SEC and how bad it could hurt if they didn’t end up with representation in the playoffs. I can’t imagine the pressure the CFP committee felt to make the just and right decision or the one that kept them employed in a fake position of authority. They took the money. I think we all would’ve in that position. You still need to eat next season. But the people will recognize the fallacy. And eventually, the WCW will die. The WWF will die. The WWE will die and we will be left with small fractions of fallacy hoping that people still care. But we won’t.

it will survive, just not what we remember.
I am not a conspiracy guy like so many over in that P board, but it would not be pushing it too far for the SEC to have said something like, put us in or we are done with you and the B10 backing them.

this only happened because it's the last round with only 4 teams.
If they had done something like this early on and set that precedent, then the whole concept would have been questioned all along.
In the new format, FSU is in and it's not even up for debate.
All of the reasons (conspiracy or not) don't really matter because now the default answer is, just win your conference and you are in. It's a whole lot easier to deal with this as a one off and never have to worry about leaving an undefeated P5 champion out again.
It's kind of a win-win for the CFP committee (not really a win for players and fans and schools, but the CFP organization). They get to appease the SEC and at the same time it shows the value of the new format that is coming next season.

If there is justification for leaving FSU out,...

we will know when FSU faces UGA. Right now they are giving FSU 13 points most likely due to the believe that the betters consider UGA a shooin, or shoein, whichever.
If UGA whips FSU, as I believe enough to have offered FSU and 13 for 5K coins to one manger, the POC will be vindicated for if FSU can't get past UGA then they are not the best team in the NCAA.
At one time that's all most people wanted, an unquestioned national champion which wasn't subjectively selected by voters and computers loaded with hype from preseason rankings which included up to 8 SEC teams in the top ten and the other two being first or early season opponents of an SEC team. Memeber Clemson being ranked #8 and getting trashed by Bama?
In all I am I believe the playoff has produced a winner who had to beat at least the second best team in college football. While I protested the inclusion of two SEC teams the one I would have left out won the final game and was rightfully crowned.
The POC promised to identify the four best teams and include them in the playoff. The only embarrassment has come for them seeding one which perhaps should not have been there. However, our teams which ran over opponents usually were head and shoulders better than all. We took a butt whipping from a far superior LSU team and some might say we didn't belong that year.
I can see where 5 teams belonged in the PO and appreciated how difficult it was to take Bama. However, I'm not sure FSU could beat the other three and I know all my coins would be on Bama if they played FSU in the first round this year. IMO, which QB plays for FSU is not a factor.
Our defense handled them with their starting QB and Bama's offense is somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 points/game better than ours against equal foes.
The 12 team playoff next season will turn these complaints into complaints of 2 or 3 sec teams getting a bye.
Fans gonna fan.
I think FSU being left out might possibly weaken the conference standing on the GOR, or perhaps one or two more teams, enough to escape the slavery we agreed to subject ourselves to.
