If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 7:02 AM

thoughts on Bradley Lecroy. He was a Jack Leggett player and asst. coach. He has always been highly thought (from reports - no first hand knowledge). We have lost some great asst. coaches in the past. More of a question than a recommendation. He has been here 14 years. If he is not ready now, then maybe he will never be ready.

Why?

Or hitting declined ever since he got here imo.

Speaking entirely for myself...

May 26, 2021, 7:41 AM

if I were the AD, my first call would be to Tim Tadlock at Texas Tech followed by Dan Heefner at Dallas Baptist.

DO YOU GOOBERS NOT REALIZE THAT NO MATTER WHO THEY BRING IN THEY ARE GOING TO BE UNDER THE SAME FINANCIAL RESTRICTIONS THAT MONTE AND JACK WERE AND ARE. THAT BEING SAID THERE ARE THINGS THAT MONTE CAN CERTAINLY DO BETTER AND HE SAID THAT AFTER THE GAME YESTERDAY.

Just stop with the limited scholarships and money BS. Every other school is having to deal with theses issues. Clemson just forked out millions for DKS renovations, new baseball facilities. Every other school is having to deal with Title 9, the Majors, etc.

Monte has lost this team. Good Lord, look at how they acted yesterday. If he stays, this program will be even worse next season. He’s Muschamping our Baseball Program.

Hey Goober...

May 26, 2021, 9:19 AM [ in reply to Re: Speaking entirely for myself... ]

see my comments below where I specifically said that because of the scholarship inequity, I did not think Monte would be fired since any replacement would face the same issue.

The question in this thread said "if" the decision was made to move on from Monte.

Texas A&M and LSU will be looking for a coach to

No way we get the Texas tech manager

and has lead his team to the post season six times including four CWS appearances.

Two days ago, he agreed to a Lifetime contract with TT.

He's from Denton, TX originally and a TT alum so I get it even though Lubbock is an absolute armpit.

What's Dabo's schedule look like?

Re: If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 8:08 AM

I just don't see us firing the head coach for not winning enough and then hiring one of his assistants without there being a interim period during the season like what happened with Dabo.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 1:56 PM

That was my thought as well. Also consider that Tommy Bowden was basically fired due to not being able to get over the hump and take the program to the next step. We were at least producing winning records and there were enough positives within the program to feel like an assistant like Dabo was responsible for a lot of those positive things, and if given the chance to take over he could continue to produce those positive things while fixing the issues which were preventing us from taking the next step forward.

It would've been much harder to sell people on Dabo taking over if we were coming off of a 4-8 season and all signs were pointing towards things getting even worse.

Matt Lecroy might be a better option

Although my first call would see if we could somehow swing Sully

Yep Corbin and sully were next in line and screwed that up. You’re telling me that next guy won’t be the answer? I know current and former guys who don’t care for monte. You’re telling me a player wouldn’t wanna play for joe torre for the Yankees who is a proven winner but he would rather go play with the Marlins? He would rather go to wake to play and not Vanderbilt?

May 26, 2021, 9:49 AM

No way. Local too many ties to the last staff and this one. That would be insanity. Probably a great guy, but if the move is made Clemson needs a complete fresh staff. Go get one if the 3 or 4 assistants coaches in the country and give it a shot. A long time assistant from a great program. Who is Corbin's top assistant? Sully's top assistant. We have to think differently.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 9:54 AM

There are only 4 coaches in baseball and only 3 of them get paid.

That means each coach has a MAJOR impact on the team's success or lack thereof.

Baseball assistants on failing teams do not get promoted.

Also a huge LOL to anybody suggesting that some of the major coaches from around the country are going to leave their comfortable job to come try to revive the Clemson baseball program.

It wouldn't have mattered if Jack Leggett himself was hired as the AD, Sully and Corbin were never going to leave Florida or Vandy to come back to Clemson.

Doubt we would get sully or corb but it’s like in life don’t know until you try. Money talks!

Re: If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 10:13 AM

Your suggestion is akin to divorcing your wife in hopes of convincing a millionaire supermodel to marry you simply because you just became a millionaire.

Both of those coaches already make plenty of money and Clemson isn't going to win a bidding war against either school, and even if Clemson offered slightly more money than their current school neither coach is going to take a step down in program for a few extra bucks.

Gotta risk it and take chances. I’ve had people in life who were qualified for a job more then another candidate. Guess who got the job. The person who showed initiative and did the things that weren’t normal. Had players and students miss out on opportunities because they simply were afraid and didn’t take a chance. Guess what life’s about taking chances and getting knocked down and learning. But wait we want things handed to us and the easy way now right?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If they did move on from Monte...

May 26, 2021, 1:29 PM

None of your examples are remotely related to luring away a baseball coach from a top 5 job to come to Clemson to revive the program.

Now hiring an underqualified go-getter instead of an old washed up accomplished coach does work sometimes, but that is a different discussion.

With that line of thinking Wake Forest could make an offer to Dabo to be their next football coach, and another offer to Nick Saban to be their DC. They'd never know they couldn't make those moves unless they try, right?

Like I said it’s very unlikely but baseball is different. Football you only have a select few who are tier 1. Never know until you try. Spend money to make money!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well they would if Clemson baseball is as amazing as many people here claim.

May 26, 2021, 3:35 PM [ in reply to Re: If they did move on from Monte... ]

Based on what I’ve read here, it’s one of the best baseball jobs in college.

Now I’m hearing you say that it’s nowhere close.
