l? If so how do you know since the membership roles are confidential, supposedly. But we do know that Condy Rice is a member. Wasn’t that inthe news? She was the first female member.

C. Dan Joyner was a member of Augusta National but he passed away back in 2012.

If my memory serves me correctly, which is not often, Condy was extended a membership after the women's liberation movement protested about the fact there were no female members at Augusta National. In fact, they petitioned, rather threatened, the sponsors to withdraw their funding because of it. The Chairman of the Board at Augusta National stood his ground and said that would be O.K., they would not solicit their funding. They did not and had the tournament without some of the funding and did well. He silenced the protestors into submission. I believe the chairman was a coot graduate but he handled it very well. Can't think of his name though. Maybe Doc or King. Condy was later offered a membership which she accepted I think. She was a fine addition in my opinion. Someone correct any memory lapses.

Hootie Johnson. The protest was led by Martha Burke. I remember how they made such a big deal about it but only about two dozen people actually showed up to protest.

Marsh and I are good friends going back to when he was the superintendent of a golf course in Athens. He is indeed a wonderful guy and is not a member of Augusta National. I always considered Marsh the "superintendent", although his title changed over the years. I think Marsh was also the first superintendent to live off the grounds of Augusta National. I am not sure than any of their employees are or have ever been members. I know quite a few members including the present chairman, whom I first met in the Crow's Nest in around 1976 when he was playing in the Masters as the US Amateur champion. I also knew the founder, Clifford Roberts, pretty well.
No sure if any of you are aware, but the Augusta National is buying up all of the businesses between the club and I-20 on Washington Road. It is my understanding that they have secured all but a couple of pieces of land.

O did, but he died. I contracted private security for him, so I had to know.

Condi and Mrs Moore were admitted together so neither would bear the ignominy as “the first”.
I didn’t know either but met Mrs Moore while I was doing some contracted work by Hole #1. This would have been early March, 2013 or 2014. I didn’t Recognize her but looked her up while on my lunch break. She was playing in a foursome during “Members Only” period of the year, so it stands to reason the other 3 guys were also members.
I also ran into Hootie—literally—during a get acquainted event in 2017 when he was herding a group of about 12 guys (several in their green jackets and gawking, so my guess is they were pretty new) out of McKenzie’s Pub in Berckman’s Place and across the hall to the dining room for dinner or dessert (it was about 9 pm—I had no idea I needed to be staying out of main routes of egress that late on a workday.)
He was pretty gracious about it, since he was the one who ran into me.
I haven’t done any contract work out there in a while, so I’m not risking anything by saying that. And it’s not as though I know any secret stuff. But I did smuggle my phone into work and got some unique pics that I’m not allowed to post online.
