If the government had not gotten involved in the first place the college athletics would not need new government legislation.
This is just another step of government encroaching into private affairs.

Nobody in the military actually cares, and the senior officers that are affected by this already make plenty of money. The difference in their paycheck at that point is not noticed as much as it would be to enlisted members. The thought of it shocks voters though, and I am sure that is why it is getting this level of attention in the media.
Secondly, I read the articles that claim that this forces the military to select and appoint more inexperienced leaders and that is a complete line of bull. I work at an upper level command headed by a Flag officer. The man that just took over command is one whose promotion is being blocked. He was still the same man whose talents were recognized resulting in him being selected for the position. The fact that a senator is preventing him from wearing another star on his collar has zero impact on his experience level or his abilities as a leader.
I am not advocating for Tuberville, nor do I like the man, but I must point out that his tantrum doesn't actually impact the effectiveness of the military. These career military officers have already committed about 30 or more years of service to the country and this will not deter them from continuing to serve. The tantrum will end and they will get their stars - most likely with retroactive pay compensation to the date of their appointment. Said officers probably picture it as more of a forced savings plan.
