boil. That is all I have ever heard it called. And this is after 4 years at Clemson (surrounded by native South Carolinians) and a couple of years living there after I graduated. (I'm from GA).
I have learned something new today. Thanks!

Frogmore was a post office, entering and leaving town were on the same sign. A real stew consists of about 10 lbs fresh caught swimps, 2 dozen ears fresh corn, 8 lbs of a good spicy smoked sausage,8 lbs new red potatoes, 2 dozen fresh blue crabs and about 1/2 dozen lemons halved . The last three ingredient that makes it truly outstanding are plenty of Coaches Sea Food Boil, many cold beers and much newspaper (preferably the coot gazette from columbia).

Don't want to get in a peeing contest, but it was Frogmore first. The purist and traditionalist always call it Frogmore stew. As it became more and more popular the hoity tioty decided that due to their affluence that there was no way something that good could have originated in Frogmore. Hence they had to redefine it to a more sophisticated dish by renaming it Beaufort stew or low-country boil. That's the gospel!

the Ohio transplants din't want their address to be so "redneck" sounding like Frogmore, so they protested and petitioned until they got the name changed to the more pious and holy "St. Helena".
My dad had a "Frogmore International Airport" T-shirt that he proudly wore. He never would tell me where he got it.

Frogmore or Beaufort Stew. Frogmore is/was part of St Helena
Lowcountry boil is what all the ohioans and other transplants call it. Cant remember any of my family elders every saying they live in the lowcountry.
It traditionally does not have crab legs in it, but some people are divided on that. Crabs were a very cheap food back in the day, so wouldnt be unlikely to have made its way into the pot. Some also boil with lemons, which does little to nothing depending on how many lemons to pot size.

I've always heard there are subtle differences between low country boil, frogmore, and Beaufort stew...not that it's a battle for naming rights.

Add some snow crab legs. And yes I live in Charleston. And we call it and always have called it frogmore stew. Btw. Your stomach doesn't care what you call it.

Snow crab legs to a Beaufort stew? That may be the most yankee thing I've ever heard. Go back to Ohio

Make sure you devein the shrimp, don't overcook them, don't add too much lemon if you're adding lemon, and poke the andouille so it doesn't burst.
