lots of chatter about miami never winning again

Dec 3, 2015, 1:45 PM

you guys are smoking crack

All they need is a great coach

They have great talent and can reload year after year.

Recruiting to Miami might be easier than recruiting to LA (USC, UCLA)

they need a coach that can coach

they need a marketing and party dept to fill the stadium

Jimmy Johnson kicked ### down there

What Jimmy did was 30 years ago. Times have changed, my friend. The rest of the country knows about south Florida recruiting.

Miami will win 9 games a year, but they aren't going to beat Alabama, Florida State, or the rest of the big boys on a routine basis. Richt couldn't get it done with similar talent at Georgia, what changes now?

Dang fans are tough

Constant 9 or better wins isn't considered good anymore.

Can't speak for others but no crack smoking here...

Richt's challenge is going to be cultural more so than anything else in Miami. I hope he does well and beefs up the division. Well, that and the stadium situation hurts fandom a lot down there. Winning should help that though.

Regardless, massive improvement over Al Golden. God that white shirt and orange tie combo with gelled hair for every game was SO ANNOYING. His best attempt at a culture change down there no doubt.

The stadium situation will hold them back

HS football could draw larger crowds.

That was against Virginia Tech. It's really sad***

Things have changed. Miami isn't getting the talent they used to and it isn't just going

Dec 4, 2015, 12:30 AM

to come on its own. They need to commit more financially, and of course they need coaches that can recruit - just like everyone else.

I guess I am in the minority here but I see the Richt higher at Miami as one of the worst hires ever. Miami cannot fill up the stadium even with 9 win teams. The fans there want shots at the NC from the coach they hire. Richt has taken the best talent from GA and almost always has not 1 but 2 of the best running backs in the nation, some of the best recruits in the nation and play mediocre. They cam up ranked number 1 in the nation based on talent alone and then Boise State beats them easily.

Richt does not show much emotion on the sidelines and the UGA Alumni say he is a good Christian man. They good Christian man part is not going to mean anything to the loudmouth talking heads of former UM players who trash the team every time they don't win.

I think Richt is probably a real good guy and maybe a great guy to have as a neighbor or friend.

However, the coach at UM is more of a political position than 99% of the other schools in the nation and you have players coming in expected to have prostitutes and such provided to them just for considering coming to UM.

Richt coached in the SEC lEAST and has a #### poor record against top 25 teams. I just don't see that changing at UM.

I guess the only hope is that the staff at UGA limited Richt in what he could do but watching UGA lose badly to teams that shouldn't even been close to their talent level is a normal occurrence.

I also don't see those good football players in Florida wanting to go to UM because Richt is now the coach. We get into a lot of fights with UM and FSU because we have so much talent from the state of Florida. The kids these days want to go to the school that offers them the most and gives them a chance at a national championship. Unless Miami drastically improves, they are going to be fighting the consistent Top 10 teams for their recruits.

There is nothing better than a 58-0 win in Miami to make it clear to recruits that there are better schools to go to than UM.

Someone needs to explain to me why UM cant afford to pay more for a coaching staff when their tuition in Coral Cables is insane.

Unfortunately, if UGA gets a very good coach then it could make them a real 10 to 11 win team every year as opposed to the 9 win team that has a very close call against a horrible GA Tech team and it was not because of garbage TD with 1 second left on the clock to make the score look closer than it was.

Rixht is a good hire

Dec 4, 2015, 3:20 AM

1. Miami had some pretty good classes under Shannon and Golden. And if I'm not mistaken several is recent years -even ranked in the top 10. Richt can recruit and/or has the staff that can.

2. Richt knows politics. He navigated UGA's for a long time. He doesn't need to make the ex-players happy. He needs to make the actual big boosters (or possible big boosters) happy. And I would bet that the amount $ given by former players is tiny compared to other alumni. Nobody cares what Michael Irvin or Warren Sapp thinks. Kids don't care what those old men think.

3. Richts demeanor, maturity, knowledge in running a program as CEO, and his character will appeal to the boosters. I think Richt will bring inthe $$$$

4. With $ they can improve the facilities on campus, etc. As far as a stadium goes, I have no idea if their campus layout could accomodate an on-campus venue even if the $ were raised. I think a 50,000 seat stadium would be ideal like Baylor's. But that even isn't a consideration right now.

5. Winning solves a lot. Golden and Shannon were young up and comers who couldn't hack it. I can see why Miami brought in an experiemced guy like Richt. His personal ties to Miami were just a bonus.

I can't think of a better hire they could have brought in at this point.

I'm also a little different like Deanster

Dec 4, 2015, 4:22 PM

My personal thinking is that Miami needs a shady guy like Petrino or even Leach. They don't need to be a good recruiter down there. Richt is going to "clean it up", and they aren't going to thrive like that. I also don't see much money available for staff and facilities. Alumni don't support like they should.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I just looked it up and UGA was ranked 19th when they lost

Dec 4, 2015, 8:06 AM [ in reply to Re: lots of chatter about miami never winning again ]

to Boise. The Broncos were #5 and finished the season 12-1. UGA definitely wasn't ranked anywhere near #1, and Boise was likely favored in that game.

I think this was a great hire for Miami - they weren't going to get anyone better. Richt might not be an elite coach, but he's a very good coach. If he can win 9 or so games a year while getting the school to commit to football financially again, his tenure will be a success.
