Lol at CJ being called a cancer to the team

Oct 29, 2021, 10:25 AM

When his group is the only ones playing worth a **** on offense. I just wish he could coach QB, WR, TE, and OL too.

Maybe it's a mental thing? Kyrie Irving puts up great numbers and has been a cancer everywhere he has played. Terrell Owens comes to mind at certain points of his career. We never know what's going on. That said, I wouldn't trust some random internet rumor. CJ might be great.

Re: Lol at CJ being called a cancer to the team

The problem with your examples is that those guys were being cancers while they were the ones playing great.

The fact that CJ is coaching and not playing should indicate that the players closest to his behavior (the RB room) should be the representation of CJ's ability to help the team.

Seems like a very flawed logic that the WR, OL, and QB rooms are struggling because Spiller is a problem while the RB room is thriving under the position coach who is causing all of the problems on offense.

Coaches can be cancers and have players doing well. That happens as well.

Re: Lol at CJ being called a cancer to the team

Oct 29, 2021, 11:36 AM

How does that make any sense?

The players he doesn't deal with every day are more impacted by the problem?

It's not like the RB room is full of veteran guys who would be expected to overcome the problems.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe, but all indications are the accusation is complete BS

Oct 29, 2021, 1:58 PM [ in reply to Re: Lol at CJ being called a cancer to the team ]

It strains credulity to say that CJ Spiller...a man we have known since 2006 to be a man of character...a man who has been given a position coaching job by Dabo Swinney, who we also know to be a man of character and a man who holds team culture above about anything...is some sort of cancer to the team...the result of which is that HIS players are developing well and performing better than they previously have, but the WRs, QB, OLine, Tight End and Offensive Coordinator are all so completely out of sorts because of...the RB Coach. And the only indication of this is that people unhappy with their playing time or buried on the depth chart are transferring (I'm sorry, is this not 2021?), and some anonymous nobody on Tigernet.

The whole notion is laughable.

People like you and many others on this board are the cancer to this team. If you idiots would please do TRUE Clemson Fans a favor and find another team to “root” for and by root I mean tear apart!!!

No person should ever be referred to as a cancer and this is a poor choice of words. This is very offensive especially if you have experienced cancer like many Clemson fans.

I have heard one person say that Spiller is a cancer. I think you’re over dramatizing or just lying.

The real cancers are players who choose to jump ship when things become tough. We’ve seen that in the running back room this year. Team should come first with these “players” who are only concerned with their individual accomplishments. And you know who I am speaking of,

Re: who said that? That some people really reaching for anything

Oct 29, 2021, 11:35 AM

The game has changed. These players are all about their personal brand first, team second. Anything but fawning praise and to the portal they run…
From the beginning, CJ has acted as if his on field accomplishments make him superior to those he coaches. Since he has already done it, he is the man…problem is, ETN was better, so CJ has his own little ego battle raging. I saw every game CJ played and yes, ETN was superior. Sorry…
I’m not saying that CJ is the problem, just that discussions of his past greatness have zero to do with winning today’s games.
At his age, he needs to let others discuss GOAT issues, rather than taking the Lebron approach.
I hope he can learn to stay out of discussions regarding his legacy at CU, and become an all time great COACH.

Re: who said that? That some people really reaching for anything

Oct 29, 2021, 11:42 AM

The game hasn't changed at all.

The best players play. The coaches determine who the best players are. Players who don't get to play are mad because they are highly competitive and want the chance to show what they can do.

None of this is new to the game of football or any other highly competitive team sport and there is nothing wrong with players wanting more.

What has changed is that there are more avenues being created every season that seem to indicate to players that quitting in the middle of the year is an acceptable option.

In reference to Spiller and ETN, what in the world are you talking about?

What does ETN have to do with any of this?

The only connection between Spiller and ETN is that in Spiller's first year helping with RBs (not as a full time coach) ETN made an enormous jump in his receiving game out of the backfield.

I'm not saying that was a credit to Spiller, but I'm not sure of any other change that could be connected between the two of them.

Thank you

when you get right down to it, most of the kids are transferring because they simply want more playing time, and I get that.

That said, transferring mid year doesn't make a lot of sense to me since the these kids can't enroll at another school mid-year. Keep practicing, finish out the season, and then move-on.

Of course, there are exceptions with some kids like Michel Dukes who opt to leave in order to avoid some type of disciplinary issue.

Now your making assumptions. How do you know he transferred because of that? See you just made the same assessment as the people who state CJ is cancer to the rb room. Losing three backs in a season says a lot if you want to be frank!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s pretty obvious from your post history that

Oct 29, 2021, 6:27 PM

You are either Michael Dukes himself, some relative of his, or his overly obsessed stalker. Since I’m *mostly* kidding about the latter possibility, I’m going to assume it’s one of the first 2 options.

Rather than posting vague annoyances/grievances about what’s going on behind the scenes with the team (and particularly with your thoughts about CJ Spiller) why not attest to what’s ACTUALLY going on. I understand your concerns about “recruits looking at the message board”, but if things are really as toxic as you seem to insinuate, then maybe they should be aware before being thrown into an unhealthy situation during their formative years.

Unless of course you’re just a troll who’s WAYYYY too deep in your charade. But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Please share what you claim to know is going on.

criticize or even say anything negative about CJ Spiller. Imo, he is the best college football player to ever take a breath. He has it all and he could do it all.

Our running backs are the only bright spot on offenses. Those guys play hard from starters to bench guys.

woefully inexperienced, in over his head, and running off the talent.

B) I keep hearing this "RB's are the bright spot" line of BS. They aren't. They're the skinniest girls at fat camp right now, which I guess is something, but no, they aren't producing. They've been averaging 4.6 YPC since game 1 with zero improvement in that stat game to game (brief jump to 5.2 for Syracuse). 4.6 YPC is absolutely, positively average in the college game. Add to that the fact that they are NOT pass catching threats, and are completely useless at pass protection at the moment due to inexperience, and this whole "bright spot" attempt to fluff up CJ starts to dim quite a bit.

CJ loves Clemson and has donated lots of money to the school. He wants to help the team and has the knowledge to be of value. We have great running backs and some left to gain more PT. Go CJ, go Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Average is good for us with this type of OL and ZERO passing

Oct 29, 2021, 10:53 PM [ in reply to A) Nobody called him a cancer. People have said he's ]

Game. See: ETN’s YPC last year… it was 5.4. ETN had Trevor Lawrence at QB and a better OL.

The RB’s aren’t missing a bunch of assignments like all the other position groups. Let’s face it. CJ IS doing a good job in spite of a dumpster fire of an offense. Maybe he’s the only one being tough on his players and holding them accountable.

Would it be nice to have Lyn J right now? Sure. Is it going to cost us a playoff berth if we have a thin RB room this year? Nope, let’s go recruit a couple more studs who want to get on the field or transfer.

Let’s take 25 a year if we’re not going to use the portal. that’s the only way we will keep depth with people transferring out. What a cop out to blame CJ. This board is full of simpletons speculations.

Our qb is ranked in the bottom 10 in the nation and our o line is terrible yet I still see our rbs running hard. There isn't much you can do without holes to run through.
