I know hindsight is always 20/20...especially when you ####

something up as bad as Swofford has on this whole conference realignment game. But to think what might have been if this clown would have gotten off his academic high horse and realized the changing landscape in college sports (i.e. football is KING) and for once done what is in the best interest of ALL schools rather than just Tobacco Road. We had WVU begging to join the conference, and Notre Dame was apparently at the time warm to the idea. We could have had a 16 team ACC with the additions Notre Dame, WVU, Pitt, and Syracuse. Maybe not ideal, but it certainly would have evened the balance between football and basketball, and presumably resulted in much more favorable media rights agreements.

Swofford is an arrogant, self-serving pr!ck who has no foresight and caters to the special interests of the basketball schools he gets on his knees for. He deserves every ounce of blame for the ACC falling apart.

presidents.

why do we blame swofford when his power can be usurped at pretty much any given moment?

he's not a dictator; no watery bint tossed him a scimitar.

Oh, commissioner eh? Very nice. And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers. By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.

Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

The schools also denied WVU

May 24, 2012, 11:13 AM

VT and UVA want nothing to do with them.

Probably has something to do with their fan behavior (rioting, couch burning, battery throwing, etc.).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not to mention the conduct of their team

May 24, 2012, 11:14 AM

There is no room for a team in the ACC that scores that many durn points. 70? Outrageous.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure about VaT.

May 24, 2012, 11:18 AM [ in reply to The schools also denied WVU ]

UVA, UNC, and Duke opposed WVU due to academics. In the end it will probably be what killed the ACC as a football conference.

Here's a VT perspective.

May 24, 2012, 11:37 AM

I think it does speak volumes though that the two schools that have a long history together rarely compete in any sport.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's just funny that you like to call people out with links

May 24, 2012, 11:43 AM

to prove them wrong, but can't produce a link to support your own statement.

Honestly, I don't know for certain that Duke, UNC, and UVA were opposed to WVU, but everything that I have heard suggests they were the ones. I have never heard VaT didn't support WVU joining.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's just funny that you like to call people out with links

May 24, 2012, 11:55 AM

I guess I'll make it more clear then. In my opinion and with what I know about VA, it wouldn't surprise me if VT was one of the teams against WVU. They are two schools that played each other annually for over 30 years in football, but abruptly ended the game when they were no longer required to play each other by being in the same conference.

VT and many other schools had multiple issues with the behavior of WVU fans and the lack of control by the administration.

Anyway I the bottom line is that the decision isn't Swofford's alone. Just about every decision made by the conference is made by the school presidents and AD's. Blaming Swofford for their denial is a little far fetched to me.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it's a stretch to suggest VaT only played WVU

May 24, 2012, 12:15 PM

because they had to since they were members of the same conference.

VaT and WVU played each other 36 times BEFORE VaT joined the Big East. The two schools only played each other 12 times as members of the Big East.

I have no idea whay they stopped the games. It could have been bad blood because of their move to the ACC or maybe it was just a scheduling thing. But I doubt it had anything to do with fan behavior.

Have you ever been to a VaT game? How about the ACCCG this past year? VaT fans aren't the best themselves.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

vpi don't want to tangle with wvu when they already got

I've been to games in Athens, College Park, Columbia, Tallahassee, and several others. Blacksburg has - by far - the most obnoxious fans I've ever encountered.

WVU Orange Bowl Fans

May 24, 2012, 11:50 AM [ in reply to The schools also denied WVU ]

That doesn't surprise me.. After the Orange Bowl a mom aka methmommy and her 2 daughters (sistercousins) jumped one of the girls that was with us after the game when we were getting off our hotel elevator. I even had bruises from trying to pull them all apart lol. Needless to say we got kicked out of our hotel at 2am because of them and we were supposed to check out the next morning. Worst fans I've ever encountered.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Let me get this straight

May 24, 2012, 12:20 PM

At 2 am, as you were exiting an elevator, three female WVU fans launched a completely unprovoked attack on a girl in a group of Clemson fans (a group that included guys)?

Re: Let me get this straight

May 24, 2012, 12:30 PM

Yep we were getting off on our floor and they were getting on. There was 3 of us, 2 guys and a girl (all Clemson students), we split from the rest of our group while they were in the lobby. Everyone had been drinking some at the game but they got real dirty real quick. We couldn't do much besides try to pull them off since you can't hit a female. Cops came, they made it seem like it was our fault (2 21 year olds and a 22 year old vs a mom and daughters) since the hotel didn't have cameras on the floor. The manager told us we had 15 mins to get everything from the rooms. Pretty crappy night.

OR he'll get the credit for finally making the ACC the true, undisputed leader in college hoops, having rid the conference of the low-life football schools and paving the way for more respectable bball schools.

that he passed on the opportunity to add Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, this further exacerbates the problem with Swofford and his lack of vision.
