After 2 years we will know for sure how to rate this hire.

Leonard is fast tracking to be an NFL HC going back down to college would slow that down and not do Clemson any good when he decided to jump back up to the NFL in 2 years. He's going to be a DC in the NFL next year and if he fares well likely a HC in 2 or 3 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's given a chance to be a head coach this year. Lots of job openings out there.

I don't agree

Both are proven DCs with great track records. For me, Allen is a better fit for 2 reasons:

1) Leonard prefers to run a 3-4 system. I'm not saying it wouldn't work here, but we've been recruiting to a 4-3 system.

2) If Leonard has success, he is extremely likely to bolt for a HC job, maybe after just one season. Allen, on the other hand, has already had his HC career, and I'd be surprised if he is ever offered another P4 job. Allen should provide stability going forward.

Regardless of who you wanted we can all agree this is a massive upgrade.

I’ll just be happy when you finally flame out!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He shuts up when you mention Illinois and no 10-win season again.

Four 10-win seasons in the entire putrid history of that school, meanwhile we’ve had. what, a dozen or so of them in the playoff era alone?

No wonder Gomer pretends to a Clemson fan!

I think both equally will be a great hire due to their body of work ( to use a term the CFP committee uses).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have to question your taste in men if you think either is a 10.

You must be from somewhere like Cleveland.

True that Justin Leonard is a great golfer. But he's at best a 7.5.

I have no idea why you mention him here, though.

I don't think we're gonna need the security cameras for this next part.

So far, only two people on this thread know how to spell his name...Leonhard.

My thoughts are Allen is a solid 9.5 and Leonard would have been an 8.5. His defense of choice went against Clemson base defense and there would have been an adjustment period. Being honest I’d have taken either in a second.
