I’m not totally sold on Kirby, BUT in his first 4 seasons as head coach..

In his first 4 seasons as a head coach:
1) He has won 3/4 bowl games
2) He has won the SEC East 3/4 years and 3 in a row
3) He has won 1 SEC Title
4) He won a Rose Bowl
5) He played for a national title and lost it in OT
6) He won a Sugar Bowl
7) He finished #2 in the country one year
8) He will finish #4 in the country this year
9) Every so called “pre-season poll” for 2020 UGA ranked in the top 3-4
Again, I have my issues with Kirby and the UGA program, but looking at his first 4 seasons since becoming a head coach...

Gotta think Dabo or Saban May have done more had they been at UGA.

Losing to lowly sc is not acceptable on any level. He has done less with more talent than any other coach in NCAA. Not counting that Fields was much better than Fromm not even close ask OH. St?

8) I don’t think teams are allowed to jump into the top 4 after the playoffs. That ship has sailed.
Ok, maybe some goober poll, but not anything that counts.
Maybe Ohio State drops to #4 after we get beat waaaaay worse than Oklahoma.

So, none of those accomplishments should count for anything.
He’s had so much talent and squandered it over and over again.
Of course I love what he’s doing and want him to stay at uga a long time.

Yes Kirby has done a good job and won a lot of games but, didn't yall fire a coach for having the same success. Kirby was brought in to win championship not non playoff bowl games. Right now he seems to be the Jim Harbaugh of the south. At least he has more talented teams and that might be enough to win big games every now and then.

I think what he is getting at is Kirby has squandered less except for his first season.
What is failed to be noted is how terrible the SEC East has been. Especially with Spurrier gone and Mason at Vandy. GT also was jammed up with the PJ decline. They will be a factor in a couple years. Also, doesn't seem like UGA has played anyone but ND out of conference, during this "great run".

He also:
1) Lost at home to SC 2) Cannot beat Alabama 3) Could not keep Fields from transferring 4) Was outclassed by LSU 5) Nearly lost to OU in the playoffs...who does that? 6) Started the trend of impressive fake kicks for SEC teams in big games
What has Kirby done that Richt didn't accomplish? Although I guess finishing with a team ranked 2-5 is pretty good though, considering 1st is taken.

It wasn’t like they weren’t winning before he got there. Look at all the talent he had this year on offense and he only averaged 21ppg at home against P5 competition. Plus he has no issues bring bad characters into the program like Webb & Evans, Kirby is a win at all cost coach.
If he doesn’t find an offensive identity and remove the bad characters from the program, UGA will be what’s been for the last 18 years.

He's like a Mark Richt , but even richter .
Here's a checklist . 1. Does he field a great defense ? Sometimes 2. Does he field a great offense ? Sometimes 3. Does he recruit great players ? Most times 4 . Can he beat the best teams from the SECw ? VERY FEW TIMES AND ALMOST NEVER WHEN IT COUNTS 5. Did LSU make him look like an abject failure as a game planner ? They sure did .
I see Kirby does well bringing in the players and getting everyone wound up by beating Florida ( which is kind of the only thing he needs to do to win the SECe ) but great coaches win the games that matter ... and so far ... uhhhh.... he's not on the list .

All things considered, Kirby Smart has done very well at UGA. Holding him up to the standard of Saban and Dabo is insane. UGA fans would have died for these results when worn out Mark Richt was let go.
One of these years, your team will break through.

and everybody else will be shat upon by these Clem guys who are heady on their current streak. They get a bye every year to The Playoffs and think they are the world's gift to football. if they played in the SEC their record might not be any better than UGA.
Kirby has talent, is getting more, and will get it done. This year 6 of the top 8 recruiting classes are SEC. One of the Top 17 is ACC. Clem got a pass in a league w/ no other talent.

As far as "getting a pass", all I have to say to you is:
1. 30-3, 44-16!
2. Looks like we deserved the "pass" because we've closed the sale 2 out of 3 years.
Kirby hasn't done that yet but his time will come if he can evolve a bit.
As long as Clemson continues to beat SEC teams, your argument remains stale.

When we won the title in 2016 the ACC Atlantic rivaled the SEC west for best division in CFB. If I recall correctly, until this season the SEC East was regarded as one of the worst P5 divisions in CFB. It's still only slightly better than where it was a couple years ago. Biggest difference is the huge drop off in the ACC.
You also fail to mention every semi-final matchup Clemson has had up until this year was against a team that only played 12 games. If LSU were relevant you might have known that fact. I don't buy any of the SEC fatigue bull crap you people come up with. I guess your Sorry excuses just mean more.

How cute.
Did we get a pass in 2016, when it was an up year for the ACC (proven strongest conference at season's end), while Bama got the benefit of doubt? Because it was well known that the entire SEC besides them was garbage.
We have done more with less.

of your moment in the sun (i.e., a rare appearance in an actual championship game).
I suppose that's to be expected since it only happens once every ten years or so.
Enjoy it since you'll likely be back to looking up at Bama and sniffing their crotch again after this season.

Kirby is 44-12 (.7857) which isn't bad.... but Mark Richt was 42-10 (.8077)
And if you say that at least Kirby played for a Natty, Richt 2002 team was ranked #3 and so was Kirby (#3). So really the same finish, different format. Both behind undefeated teams.
If anything, you have had a downgrade. Richt NEVER lost to a 4-8 team in seasons. That and Richt face a lot stiffer competition against both Saban, Spurrier, Meyer, Fulmer, and even Tubberville's height.

Don't forget these little gems...
Jan 7, 2020, 9:01 AM
|
|
1) He had six (6) players arrested in 2019 alone
2) He blew a 13 point 3rd quarter lead in the national championship
3) He blew a 14 point 3rd quarter lead in the SEC championship
4) He was responsible for what may be the absolute worst fake punt in college football history.
5) He lost to a 4-8 Uof6C team at home as a 30 point favorite and the Capons were playing their 3rd string QB.
UGa football...still achieving less with more since 1981 (and counting).

Kirby is one of the top recruiters in college football. That makes him a good college coach. It also put him in the position that some football fans question can he really coach on game day.
If Georgia fans get tired of being in the tier just below elite and run Smart one day, it might be good for Clemson. We rarely face UGA on the field but compete with them in recruiting which is Kirbys strength.
