If you mean the read option then yes.
And to those who poopoo the option it is usually done with 2 and 3 star players. It would be quite lethal with our 4 and 5 star guys. We will not be running a triple option though.

You had me worried that we weren't gong to throw the ball despite having the best group of wide receivers in all of college ball.
Whew. That's a relief!
Now if we just had any sort of evidence whatsoever that Kelly Bryant was capable of being a passing threat, things could work out as you envision.

The option is dead. Only Ga Tech and a some of the service academies run it. Just run the offense we are ran with DW4 . Passing skills are required.

For the option. Hunter Johnson and Cooper would be looking for new schools. Trevor Lawrence is not coming to Clemson for the antiquated offense. This will never happen.

If we did as you said, the no 1 qb prospect in the country next year would never come here. Kelly Bryant left Calhoun Falls because they ran a single wing offens and didn't throw the ball. I love the sarcasm because our coaches are too smart to change our offensive brand. That is what is attracting the 5 star wide receivers.

Our offensive brand is the fast pace pass first run second offense. We may tinker with it but not change it. Has the Brownell fan club become the Bryant fan club? I'm not a Brownell Fan homie. Not a hater tho. Nice guy & represents the University well, but not a great bball coach. I wanted us to hire Will Wade a long time ago.
We are gonna pass plenty this year. You just will not know if we're gonna pass or run until KB decides to tuck the ball & take off or throw it.
It will be very exciting & whoever the next QB at Clemson is will have the O adjusted to suit what they do well.

If Bryant can make the throws, he will flourish in the offense. We have watched him in mop
up duty the last two years and he opts to run instead of throwing the ball. Watson was just the opposite. Next year Lawrence may beat them all out. He's that good.

Of course Bryant can run well. I watched him do it in high school. Can he throw the short passes in our running game accurately? Can he throw the deep balls accurately to Cain and Higgins? That's the question. Look at the national championship game and see how a good passing game matters. Hurts struggled all night in it. Watson utilized the passing game in the last two minutes to win us a national title. We aren't going to the option .

Michael, we will run some option next year, but we are not going to be Ga Tech.
Kelly Bryant isn't DW4, but he is very dynamic & will be able to throw the ball just fine.
But his main weapon is his legs, & that is what will open up our passing game.

Bryant has been in the system three years . He wasn't going to beat out DW4. He couldn't beat out Nick for back up last year. He's a great runner but not a Jackson. If he is struggling passing accurately in his third year, he can't run the current offense. We sure don't change it because the other qbs can. Johnson and Cooper need this summer to close the gap. Mickey Mouse would look great against Kent State at qb. Auburn is a different animal. This is about making the playoffs. Start the qb closest to Watson. You talk about running the option. Feaster was not in an option offense in high school. The current wide receivers are there to catch the ball not block for option plays. It won't work.

Ok dude first off we will not run the option unless you mean read options and RPOs type of option attack. Second we all know Kelley has the wheels to make big runs and extend plays but the question is can he make the throws. I am still skeptical of Kelley. Feel like there has been a reason he has t thrown much at all In his mop up time and didn't look much improved in the spring game(tho he was hurt) so I'll give him an excuse on the throws but not the reads and checks I saw him make. Stayed lookin down the reciever he was going to throw too and didn't check all his reads also didn't have a lot of time so I don't put too much into the spring game but I trust coaches and only time will tell how things pan out! When he started running later in the season, we had a triple option; a run by Watson, a short pass to the side line or a throw up the field. Defenses could not cover all three. Next year can be a similar process. Yes, Kelly Bryant will have to throw the long ball with accuracy and he did that in high school. Give him a chance.

Yes! Only when Kelly Bryant breaks loose he's gone. But yes, you're correct. Tho we will have to go to the run to win with KB. The last two years DW4's passing was good enough to carry us past most teams & allowed the coaches to save the run for tough games. But we will have open recievers all day with the threat of KB running the ball, and i personally think he's capable.

Watson rarely ran the triple option as we understand it. We ran the read option a lot more. Clemsons brand is its current offense. You don't change it for a player this year who will lose the job to the best qb out of Ga since Watson.

If he can run the offense close to Watson did with precision, that's fine with me. That's passing and running . If he can't, Johnson,Cooper,or Brice will be the qb. No changing the offense for any qb! Lawrence is the best of all of them.

What I think ur failing to understand is how much DW4 watched films and studied defenses that the rpo was second nature to him, coupled with the fact that he was the coolest person I've ever seen play under pressure.
No doubt kb can make the throws sometimes but can he pull the trigger for the right read. A lot of our offense is based on timing. Early in bama game, they were able to disrupt the timing.
They did the same thing against Washington and the qb choked. DW4 never was going to let that happen. Sorry, imo I just don't think kb will be able to pull that off on a consistent enough basis.
You should try reading TigerMicheals posts. He's pretty darn smart when it comes to football.

Thanks. Watson was special no doubt. Bryant has yet to show those timing and passing skills that Watson had. When Chad Morris brought this high octane offense to Clemson, it transformed our program into a national champion years later. It's our brand and selling 5 star receivers and quarterbacks. Even the Houston Texan coaches made mention of the pro components in our offense. May the best passer/running qb win the job. It's making the playoffs that matter.

Kelly Bryant's passing skills are questionable at best. Bryant has never run the option even in high school. He ran a single wing at Calhoun Falls and transferred to Wren because they threw the football. Feasters team never ran the option. If we changed the offense to what you suggest, this team wouldn't win 9 games. The triple option is dead in college football.

There won't be a triple option at Clemson......ever. Bryant will be good in the read option whenever it's called. His job, or any of the other quarterbacks that will start, is to get the ball into the hands of the play makers at WR and RB, and yes, even TE. Watson was excellent at getting ball out of his quickly to the playmakers. Bryant/Johnson/Cooper/Israel will be asked to do that same thing. It's not hard to figure out.

Kelly Bryant ran the triple option at Abbeville & lead them to a State Championship. Transfered to Wren so he could play in a passing offense, threw for 3500 yards & 41 Touchdowns winning SC Player of the Year.
Pairing him with the best WR group in the country & the fastest running back in the country will be murder on defenders running Clemson's traditional offense and sprinkling in the option.
It's gonna be a thing of beauty.

The triple option is dead in college. Go to Ga Tech and watch that junk offense. Bryant has yet to prove that he can throw the football accurately in college. Given our schedule we could win with Bryant in eight games easily without a lot of passing. Clemson and FSU tower above the rest of the ACC in football. It's the Auburn,FSU,and maybe Louisville games that we will need an efficient passing offense. The starting qb will have to be able to throw the football. I don't care if its Bryant,Johnson, Cooper,or Brice. Making the playoffs is the expectation.
