KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 8, 2018, 8:32 AM

Lots of discussion about QB passing last year, this graphic kinda says it all. This is not a hit on KB as a QB, which has alot more than just passing, but does show where we as a team were very limited... stretching the field. Bama exploited that.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well hopefully he has improved and is nothing like last year

Apr 8, 2018, 8:35 AM

I bet he has worked hard and realizes where he needs to improve.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

hopefully, but I wouldn't expect him to be that much better.

Apr 8, 2018, 9:09 AM

It's not like he was a freshman last year, he was a junior and had been here for a while. I think we've pretty much seen what kind of QB KB is. Definitely think Johnson and Lawrence need to be the top two guys in some order. Original poster said it well--Alabama exposed us in a way that some other teams just didn't have the talent to do. The exposed our relatively weak QB play. Love KB, but I think, especially now, that we probably have more talented guys ready to play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is absurd

Apr 8, 2018, 3:50 PM

You don't believe a guy can make improvements from his first year on the field to his second?

Does Tajh Boyd ring a bell?

Seemed to be much MUCH improved from 2010-2011.

No, don't tell me, it was just because of the new offensive system and coach, right?

Re: That is absurd

Apr 8, 2018, 3:58 PM

How did Boyd do after college in that same pro style system We ran in 2010? He didn’t even get to play in preseason games he was so bad. It was absolutely because of the system we ran.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you watch the interview of Tajh himself

Apr 8, 2018, 4:10 PM

Said the game slowed down tremendously for him going into his 2nd year of live action, as well as his mechanics, etc.?

If you don't think a player is capable of making improvements going into his 2nd year of live action on the field, then you have either never played sports or I simply can't reason with you.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Did you watch the interview of Tajh himself

Apr 8, 2018, 4:55 PM

Haha. Obviously a player can improve from year to year but using Boyd was a terrible example. Boyd was just plain terrible in a pro style system.

Re: Did you watch the interview of Tajh himself

Apr 9, 2018, 7:46 AM

You should listen to the interview Tajh did with The Solid Verbal last week. His struggles mainly came from the fact that he wasn't able to pick up the offense quickly and NFL teams arent willing to give time to people and pay them to learn slowly. So he'd get 3 reps in practice and that's it...couldn't develop.

Tajh's ability to read defenses and make throws wasn't his problem in the NFL. It was his ability to learn quickly.

I Remember when Pittsburg exposed Watson.

Glad we kicked that guy to the curb

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Pitt didn’t stop Watson. Defense let us down in that one.

LOL!!!! Come on man!! I bet we can almost all agree no matter what side of the coin that you are on, on the current QB situation that this is an ignorant comparison. Watson not only broke several Clemson records against Pittsburgh but ACC Reccords as well. The other guy was right the defense let us down that day. This is a horrible comparison & a reach if I've ever seen one......

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

HIs biggest problem was hitting speed on the run.

Apr 8, 2018, 9:18 AM [ in reply to Well hopefully he has improved and is nothing like last year ]

Almost every long pass to Cain made Cain have to slow down or even come back to the ball resulting almost always in a jump ball situation, where Cain was very weak. Of course DW4 had a problem several times with this where Cain had to even backpedal to score the TD.

HJ showed he was better at this when he hit Tee on the run.

And from what I saw of TL last year, he excels at this.

Of course, it'll all play out on the field next year like it always does. Just hope we put the very best players on the field that give us the very best chance of doing what can be done with who we have: win another championship.

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 8, 2018, 9:15 AM

Yep. And if u throw out the stats u can still watch a game and see kB is limited. I don’t think enough people on this board really remember how bad the offense was last year at home especially

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 8, 2018, 2:07 PM

Bad? Thats an overstatement, not a small one. the O wasn't "bad" ... I think they played to their potential and possibly even beyond their potential... CFP playoffs is no easy task... and don't tell me it was all the D... they were great but they did not win any games all by themselves.

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 15, 2018, 6:58 PM

2015

Total Offense: 517.8 (11th)
Passing Offense: 291.5 (23rd)
Scoring 38.5 (16th)

2016

Total Offense: 503.7 (12th)
Passing Offense 333.9 (7th)
Scoring Offense: 39.2 (14th)

2017

Total Offense: 429.6 (38th)
Passing Offense: 235.5 (61st)
Scoring Offense 33.3 (32nd)

You have to go back to 2010 to find a Clemson team that threw the ball worse than last year's team.

Apr 8, 2018, 2:41 PM [ in reply to Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats ]

I'll take a "limited" QB who goes 12-2 and finishes 4th in the country in a rebuilding year over your overrated "superstar" Bentley who can't complete a TD pass on Clemson until the third string is in.

You can’t stretch the field when the oline is getting their brains beat in. I can’t believe some of you are this #### dumb

The OL we had last year is light years ahead of anything we have seen since I started following Clemson Football in the late 90's.

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 8, 2018, 4:07 PM

It’s crazy how bad KB is in the passing game. Especially when you consider how talented our WRs are. Thankfully our schedule was so bad that we were able to get back to the playoffs. It doesn’t matter who the starter is, we’ll be back to the playoffs. But, I have serious doubts that KB can beat elite teams. KB’s ceiling hangs very low. Trevor and Hunter will progress rapidly with more playing time. We would be in much better shape having started one of them two all season come playoff time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Another Coot here, posting the FGF BS line

Apr 8, 2018, 4:53 PM

about schedules. You play in the SEC least with nobody decent but Georgia last year. Try beating Kentucky, then we'll talk.

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Apr 9, 2018, 7:49 AM [ in reply to Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats ]

Our WR corps were weak last year. No one to fight for a ball plus we had no TE presence. KB went into a whole new offense with all of his skill positions being in those starting roles for the first time. Give KB Jordan Leggett, Mike Williams and Wayne and im sure some of you would be singing a different tune about his ability.

It’s incredible ow off based this comment was. Deshaun played a better defense against Alabama the first time, and all he had was Artavis Scott and hunter Renfrow. Deshaun made their defense look silly.

Deon Cain and ray Ray each had better numbers as backups with Deshaun, than they had with KB as featured WRs.

That tells he whole #### story. They each got double the snaps last year and had worse numbers. Crazy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would be interested to see what it was before his injury

Apr 8, 2018, 4:10 PM

and after it. Before his injury, he threw several nice long balls. Afterwards, I do not remeber him stepping into it and having a nice tight spiral... and usually overthrown.

I also remember, in particular, the Auburn game that our playcalling went very conservative after we got the lead because it was evident AU was not going to move the ball on us.

Re: KB 2017 Passing Stats

Spring game - KB looked alot like he did in the Natty, take away the run and not much offense..... will say this one more time, KB cannot consistenlythrow the ball down the field with any accuracy.

On the other 3 QB's...

HJ - most consistent of the 3 remaining
TL - most exciting of the remaining 3, he better learn to wear rib pads or he won't last long.
CB - just needs time, he's still not seeing the defense secondary yet.... he's really goo though.

Somebody won't be here next year...
