Just read an update on Arch Manning and it raised a question

Mar 2, 2022, 5:35 PM

There have been many, many “All World” high school quarterbacks that did not live up to their hype. I recall at California kid who hired a limo to take him to his announced commitment to Notre Dame. Clausens??

On the other end of the spectrum there are some that live up to their hype. I think Deshawn and Trevor have to be up at the top. Both won national championships at little ole Clemson.

Name who you think were the biggest bombs, and who were the successful ones.

Jimmy Clausen. Epic bust. Jamarcus Russel- LSU. And years ago Heisman winner Gary Beban was a total but in the pros as was the Nebraska guy who kept quitting each time they had to practice

Jimmy Greenbeans was always a hot topic, yet he never made the depth chart. Then he goes and transfers to Oklahoma or some odd cowpoke school.

Been a lot of "busts" going from college to NFL. I thought you were talking about busts going from HS to college.

I'm probably the only guy on this board who remembers one of the first "can't miss" high school QB's who was underwhelming, to say the least, in college. At least, he's the first one I remember.

Charlie Dudish.

He was from Atlanta (Druid Hills HS, I think) and signed with Georgia Tech (somewhere around 1970).

It seems Florida has had its share of good to great college QB’s that never did anything beyond college.

Well, they had about three or four of "The next Deshaun's"

5 star QB Xavier Lee. Went to Fla St. supposed to be the next big thing. Super dud. Don’t think he ever started a game.

Clemson had two Randy Anderson and Sapp as a QB

Willy Korn, Billy Luckie, and Willie Simmons probably all fall into this category.

Wasn’t Tate Martell a 5 star rated QB when he stepped on campus at OhioSt?

Billy Luckie was a hero on campus but not on the football field. I do believe he got lucky quite often though.

I think Tate was a four star but still one of the top QB's in the class that year.

Jimmy Clausen was a good College QB even if he was a very unlikable human and not the "Lebron James" of football he was hyped up to be and .

Just off the top of my head, I'd say all these HS 5 star qbs were bigger college busts: Ryan Periloux, Mitch Mustain, Kyle Allen (ranked ahad of Deshaun), Max Browne, Hunter Johnson, Garret Gilbert, Kyle Wright etc
