Jeff Scott

12

Jan 17, 2023, 1:42 PM

Not sure how the rules work but I’m hoping he can be heavily involved helping Grisham out coaching Wide receivers. We haven’t had separation since he left. Hopefully Riley’s scheme will help with that too. Combo could be sweet.

Since Morris left I feel like we’ve just been “our talent is better line up and win”. Hopefully we will get back to combining smart scheme with talent. Very exciting

Not to mention Scott’s recruiting ability!

Definitely need recruiting help for WR. We're doing great oline ratings wise. A little disappointed the light bulb hasn't gone off for Bryn or Mayes yet. Thought both would be dominate by now.

I think Jeff already closed the door on coaching. But he didn't say (I think) that he would not be involved at all. Maybe recruiting coordinator or some form of analyst position?

If you think coaches create separation, you have never played or watched football. Speed creates separation.

Let's see now...he leaves Clemson for a head coaching job...goes to Tampa and promptly ruins the USF bulls...then gets fired in 3 years...and some nuts want to hire him and bring him back into the Clemson family...why not get Chad Morris back and let Jeffie spend his bull money!

Jeff Scott ruined USF? They were 4-8 the season before he became head coach.

The same with Artavis Scott.

Proper technique on every play, regardless of assignment. His final season he had 4 big plays taken off the board (TDs or long gainers) by penalties on his fellow WRs…his teammates had 0 taken off the board because of him.

Speed helps but DB aren’t slow either as they have to react. Technique is very important, which is coached. And yes I’ve watched and played. TE on offense to be exact.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you "watch" the 2nd and 3rd levels?

Jan 17, 2023, 4:57 PM

There were consistently options to be found, which DJ couldn't either find or place the ball to correctly when he did try.

Post DJ - receivers IMMEDIATELY looked better. What changed? The QB.

We’re talking two different things. I was replying to a poster that said separation couldn’t be coached, that it was speed. It was in general. You’re talking about one QB vs another finding open receivers. I was talking about how receivers get that way (open).

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So there were open receivers then, correct?

Jan 17, 2023, 7:16 PM

It just took better play from the QB to find them?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: So there were open receivers then, correct?

Jan 17, 2023, 8:58 PM

Please go back and read Valley Boys post. NOTHING to do with QB play. Discussion about Jeff Scott coaching receivers and whether separation is purely physical (speed) or can be taught/coached (technique).

This is one of the most ridiculous statements I’ve ever seen. Separation absolutely comes from tactical play calling. Pulling safeties/nickel backs in different directions and attacking those holes in the defense. I’d say you havent watched or played football if you don’t know that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did we use different pass routes with Cade?

Jan 17, 2023, 5:15 PM

Is that why the receivers immediately found space and looked better?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We just fired our offensive coordinator, yet

Jan 17, 2023, 8:12 PM

here you are beating the same old drum that he wasn't to blame. Not surprising, really. Even when all evidence points to you being wrong, you just flat out are incapable of admitting it. Sociopathic behavior at best.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's a strange reply buddy, but

Jan 17, 2023, 11:56 PM

we're talking about Tyler Grisham here, not Brandon Streeter. What evidence are you referring to, and what's up with the vitriol? It's not that serious.

Jeff Scott - Do you think their will be more changes?

2

Jan 17, 2023, 2:57 PM

I love having Jeff Scott back, I would have been happy if he was our Offensive Coordinator too but I’m ecstatic to have Riley!

I thought Jeff was going to end up being our offensive coordinator & slick would end up coaching our QB’s again.

Dabo hit a home run here, we needed a shake up but I hate seeing a Clemson man fired.

I wonder if Dabo has more changes coming adding some more interesting analysis!

No, he is not officially back.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do think there will be adjustments to address

1

Jan 17, 2023, 5:22 PM [ in reply to Jeff Scott - Do you think their will be more changes? ]

our wr issues. Those issues were a big part of our overall offensive woes. Too many drops, poor blocking, inability to get open were all problematic. Hiring Riley certainly shows Dabo “gets it“. I can’t imagine the wr room doesn’t have some “adjustments” made.

GoTiguhs!!

I think there was "separation"

1

Jan 17, 2023, 4:53 PM

On a very high percentage of pass plays, there was one or more WRs, TEs, or RBs available. The issue was having a QB who wasn't very good at seeing the field and open guys, or wasn't confident to throw a pass, or when he did pass (especially more than 8 yards), it was rarely placed somewhere where the receiver could catch it.

Receivers suddenly found separation when Cade came in? Did recievers suddenly get physically better when Cade came in? I don't think so. Cade is better at buying time, locating receivers, and better at giving receivers a chance to catch it.

Can't have good WRs without a good QB.

Re: Jeff Scott

Jan 17, 2023, 6:06 PM

Separation and Clemson wide receivers should not be allowed in the same sentence.
