Jeff Scott

Once Jeff is let go by USF, does Clemson bring him back home and, if so, is he an analyst or is he given a coaching spot?
I always liked Jeff and I believe he can help in recruiting too.

Question would be how soon it happens(IF)
Oct 2, 2022, 7:46 PM

If it happened soon, wouldn't BV or Tony make a run at him, offering OC position ? Otherwise, YES ,if headcoaching is not in Jeff's future he'd want to come home.

Where do you think he's going to make more $$? As for OU, he's got a LOT more experience recruiting this area, and he's already a ready fit here, no ramp up time needed.

Dabo won't move anyone to make room.

Probably be offered an annalist position until there's room ? Just a guess. Would h want to come home or at least go back to being an OC ? Just guessing.

I wouldn't if I was BV has Jeff Lebby, a guy I had really hoped we could have stolen from Kiffin last year. Maybe Jeff Scott enrolls in the Nick Saban rehabilitation program lol.. I kid I kid!

Didn't he just sign a contract extension. He will probably get at least two more years to his program around.

If there is room on the roster; yes! I don't see him taking an analyst job. "Or maybe he would"! IDK. But, i'm sure Dabo would take him back quickly.

Yes, Jeff needs to come back home as an analyst first and then work him back into recruiting.

If he’s fired before his contract runs out, his buyout is only $192,000, which means he will need a paying job, not an analyst or position coach.
I’m guessing he gets offered an OC job immediately somewhere. Because of the limits to the number of on-field coaches, Dabo can’t just add one, and we all know he’s too loyal to fire someone if they’ve been performing. Unless Streeter takes a job after the season, I can’t see Scott coming back. Unfortunately.

Money is not a factor in my opinion. He made a ton of money at Clemson before leaving, he has made good money at USF. Dabo would find a way in my opinion.

Dabo doesn't run off coaches so Scott wouldn't get an assistant job until Grisham or someone left.

Contract extensions mean little to nothing in today's World. Contracts are made to be broken. Ask Lane Kiffen or Jimbo Fisher.

I'd love to have Jeff back on staff because he's an ace
Oct 3, 2022, 8:47 AM

recruiter, but I'm not sure he's going to be satisfied taking the kind of demotion he would have to take to come back to Clemson. He's not going to be Co-OC here again if he does return, and Dabo isn't going to run off Grisham just to make room for Scott as WR coach / Recruiting coordinator either. That's not how Dabo rolls.
I also doubt Scott will give up on being a HC after 1 failed stint at USF. If he has a choice between coming back to Clemson as an analyst and maybe eventually getting back on the staff as an assistant when somebody leaves vs taking a lower level HC or OC job, i would be pretty surprised if he chose Clemson.

he may not give up on wanting to be a HC at another school, but unless it is Holy Cross or Andover Tractor Trailer School I don't see a lot of schools begging him to come.

I didn't figure Jeff would have initial success down there,

because the cupboard was bare. But, the lack of ANY seeming progress on the field toward winning games this far into his tenure IS surprising to me. USF has been more than patient with him and his staff, but they have a fanbase too, and that fanbase is beyond patience at this point. It's a sad situation, and just goes to show that this Head Coaching stuff ain't all that easy.
Dabo had kept himself a notebook for YEARS, wanting to be ready for his opportunity. And yet, it STILL took him three plus years to really get rolling. If not for a REALLY gutsy decision by Terry Don Phillips after the 2010 season, the Dabo Swinney era could just have gone down as a two plus year failed experiment.
The point I am laboriously trying to make is, coaches develop at different rates. But, by just about any measure, Jeff Scott is failing at USF, at least where coaches are ultimately judged, on the field by wins and losses.
