James Webb Space Telescope that was just launched:

Jan 8, 2022, 7:02 PM

From the Mission Center:

Lee Feinberg, optical telescope element manager for JWST at Goddard, said at the briefing that the mirrors will not be fully aligned until about four months into the mission. “We expect them to be very misaligned” at first, he said, with a meticulous process to get the mirrors aligned to within a fraction of a wavelength. “It’s a little bit of a long process, but at the end of it we expect to see an image of a star that looks like a star.”

Man, I am glad to hear that. Tired of these star pictures that just look like bright balls. We want sharp, crisp pictures that will show all five points of each star clearly!

:)

So if a Star will now look like a Star, what did it look like before it looked like a star? Asking for the folks in Hollyweird???

Will this star have more lipstick, mascara, or less?

Re: R.Goddard got recognition re rockets / who found stars?

Jan 8, 2022, 7:20 PM

Ah yes, the Goddard Space Center ... recognizing Robert Goddard as the 'father' of modern rocketry.

But where would we be without the stars as the ultimate target for rocket exploration?

Give some props to the learned man of ancient China who discovered the stars ... Lu Men Thingg.

You're all welcome.

Isn’t the sun a (dwarf) star?

Jan 8, 2022, 9:28 PM

We’ve already got pretty good pics of it, don’t we?

Whatever choice(s) you make makes you. Choose wisely.

The PC term these days would be "Vertically Challenged"
