It’s time to stop talking SEC or BIG and make the move to one Super Conference

May 21, 2023, 8:01 AM

Once that happens the Super Conference can break into regions that play for National Championships.
I could see teams like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida…in one region. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State..,in another. Clemson, Florida State, Miami, UNC…in a division.
Look familiar?

Won't happen, because that would be a monopoly. And,

no way is ONE Super Conference going to restrict itself to one TV family. And, if not, figuring out who gets what would be a very sticky negotiation, where nobody would wind up happy.

The way you suggests teams be arranged looks exactly like what currently exists. I suspect in your scenario teams all divide up TV money equally. What would be in that for the SEC or B1G?

The only way the one super conference idea would work is if doing that somehow created so much revenue that it made the SEC/B1G teams make even more than they make now.
The would also create the need to trim a lot of fat (lose a lot of the lower teams)
Too many lawsuits would likely come out of that and could end up destroying college football as we know it.
or not.. it could go okay. lol

I think a "superconference" would have to be more about who is in than how many. Gathering the top four or five programs from each conference might be interesting and financially worthy. Who wouldn't like a Saturday line up of Georgia v. Michigan, Clemson v. LSU, Florida v. Ohio State, Oklahoma v. Penn State, etc.

What possible reason would you not have UGA and Clemson in same region?

There will be 2 super conferences. It will all be set up

like the NFL. There will be little distinguishing between the two other than one playing on Saturday and one Sunday, and of course the quality of player will be superior on Sunday.
