It's Resurrection Sunday.

Today is Resurrection Sunday!

Despite Jesus’ teaching and predictions, His disciples didn’t see this coming. Two of His followers, both named Mary, went to the tomb early in the morning after the Sabbath to prepare Jesus’ body for proper burial (Matthew 28:1; Luke 24:1). But, they and the Roman guards were shaken to their core, literally and figuratively, the body was not there! What had happened? A man in beautiful clothes explained, “He is not here. He has risen just as He said.” What? That doesn’t happen. But, it did!

After they looked around and knew it to be factual, they ran back to the other disciples. Of course, those gathered couldn’t believe it either (Luke 24:11) Would you? But, they ran to the tomb, and ... everything the women reported was true!

They went back and had to ponder what they just witnessed. While they were discussing and thinking, Jesus appeared to them. They thought they were hallucinating, seeing a ghost. But, Jesus asked for food. (Luke 24:36-49) Ghosts don’t eat!

As if that weren’t convincing enough, Jesus spent 40 days with them and was seen by over 500 people that recognized Him (Acts 1:3; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6). After the 40 days, before ascending back to Heaven, Jesus told His followers to go and make disciples telling them of forgiveness of sin and eternal life through Christ. We no longer have to fear death. He has conquered death! We just have to believe that and acknowledge Him as our Savior (Romans 10:9-10). Living the joyful life will follow. And, then we can confess, like Thomas, who doubted Jesus’ physical resurrection, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:24-29).

I hope you and your family have a joyful and peaceful Resurrection Sunday and celebrate it not just today but everyday.

"When I was young, I was sure of many things; now there are only two things of which I am sure: one is, that I am a miserable sinner; and the other, that Christ is an all-sufficient Saviour. He is well-taught who learns these two lessons." -John Newton
