Good gracious, what a disappointing season so far! This season hasn’t gone the way any of us wanted. We’ve griped. We’ve yelled at the TV. We’ve thrown the remote all over our man-caves, dens, bedrooms, etc.
During this difficult season, our Tigers have become the butt of jokes (it is called kicking a team when it is down). I actually get why our own fans would make jokes about this team. Sometimes all you can do is laugh to keep from crying! In this post, I will try to abstain from making this team the butt of a joke. Although, in fairness, Clemson’s defense in particular has appeared to MIA and should be on milk cartons (OK, one joke).
But, I also get why those outside of Clemson Nation have made jokes about Clemson for two reasons.
Reason 1: Lack of Passion Because they see the Tigers as nothing more than a team that enjoyed a great run that is now over. Nothing more. Nothing less. They don’t have a passion for Clemson like we do. They might see the Tigers run down the Hill on their TV/laptop/tablet screens. But they don’t understand the passion that goes with it. They don’t understand the glory of being on campus on a cool fall Saturday as the mist rises from Lake Hartwell. They don't understand the stirring within us when Tiger Band plays Tiger Rag! Or the pride within when we hear/sing the alma mater. Or the joy of hanging out at the Esso Club with fellow Tigers.
Reason 2: Lack of Connection And most of all, those outside of Clemson Nation do NOT hold the same connections that we Clemson fans hold to the history of Clemson’s football greatness – particularly the greatness since Dabo arrived. For example:
Clemson’s defense making the critical stop late in the game to secure a win - Louisville was 1st and goal in 2014 and about to beat Clemson before our goal line stand - Notre Dame coming up short on the 2-point conversation attempt in a hurricane downpour - Stopping Auburn on its last possession at Auburn in a six point game to open the 2016 season
Or Clemson’s offense making that late score to grab victory away from the jaws of defeat: - Watson-to-Renfrow (Enough said!)
Or Clemson special teams making a play that change the trajectory of a game - Teasdall to Wilkins on the fake punt in the 2015 CFP - Randall with the long KO return and Hauser with the 56 yard FG to win the title and go to the CFP
Conversely, Clemson Fans enjoy both Passion and Connection regarding the Tigers! Those moments are fun highlight moments for most college football fans. But they are much more than mere highlight moments for Clemson fans. We have long ago fallen in love with our Tigers. These moments simply continue to cement our extreme passion for the Tigers.
Ultimately, we’re Clemson. We don’t just punch a ticket and show up when things are perfect. We show up because this place is HOME. Clemson football (and Clemson athletics in general) is what we love!
Because that’s who we are.
So forgive me if I don’t hop off the wagon just because the road got bumpy. Are there things that need fixing? - Yes Should some things be evaluated? - Yes Should we hold coaches and players to a standard worthy of that Paw? - Yes
But I am convinced of one thing: Clemson isn’t done. Not even close.
We are Clemson! We haven’t just climbed the mountaintop once. We have climbed it multiple times!
When Clemson gets through this - and I believe we will - perhaps some of the bandwagon fans will return. Either way, I believe we will get through it!
A new mountaintop will await!
Because that is who we are! Go Tigers!!

It reading that essay. If we don’t win 3 of the last 4 (including SC) Dabo and the entire staff should be fired.

I feel like donations just line the pockets of the site's editors. God knows they're not using it on website upkeep. This site has looked the same and functioned the same for 20 years.

You feel that way. Maybe you should reach out to the mods and tell them how great you are at website reconstruction since they’re on the friends and family plan. As for me I quite enjoy the site as is.

People have to comment that they're not reading something. If you don't read it your comment cannot be taken seriously. If you're looking for negative attention, you're about to get it.

Are you serious clarke? If you are, you're entitled to your opinion, but I can guarantee you that cbprof is who he targeted as a bandwagon fan.
Hopefully I misinterpreted your comment. Idk.
Anyway, thought the professor was spot on. I believe it's human nature for us to all want to jump in and help, hence so many posts or threads. In a way, we're feeling helpless. We know this isn't Clemson. That said, we, most get up every morning and dawn the paw. Dum Spiro Spero!!! Aka, All In

This kind of comment is is exactly why you don’t understand one thing about what this post is all about. Why have you not officially jumped off the bangwagon you came in on.

What have you done for me lately. That is not the message I want young people to follow.
Dabo deserves to coach at Clemson for as long as he wants. THERE! I said it!

Substantive changes on his staff. After that? If he doesn’t produce any evidence showing he has a clue in how he intends to compete and succeed moving forward? Then, he should simply resign and join Saban

I'm a Tiger Alumni and Fan. That's it, no other discussion. Do you actually think I'll cheer for the Coots?!? GMAFB.
There are some on here Virtue Signaling, crowing like a coot on Duval Street, saying they've been right for 4 years now. They laugh at this team.
No true Tiger Fan laughs at their team because they've failed. We vent and share frustration. As Dabo said "DO YOUR JOB!".

That was well written and I enjoyed it, but I think this off-season with the NIL and the class of 2027 as well as the NIL will let us know if we will ever be back consistently.

But those things will reveal how far this program has to climb to reach the top again - which is different from whether we can ever get there again.
Also to your point, though, being consistent in staying on top would seem even tougher.
I do think Clemson will get there again. And, again, it will take a lot of orange blood, sweat, and tears just as it has before.

Paying players has made college sports to be where the rich schools can stay on top longer without the constant hard work that coaches were having to do to stay at or close to the top!!!

You can appreciate what Dabo built without pretending the last few years haven’t exposed real issues.
Being “all in” shouldn’t mean being blind, it should mean caring enough to want the program to evolve.
Respect for the passion and the perspective.
You're one of the good guys on here.

I totally agree with that but, I was allin when we were having seasons as bad or worse than we're having this season. I'm a Clemson Tiger through and through with no plans of turning on the team that's been a part of my life almost my entire life!!!

nice book many are still pulling for the Tigers but we see how far Dabo has allowed the program to fall let's hope this game is not a referendum on our coach like Tuesday was on the current leadership in America we shall see!

Well said. If we go 0-12 next year, I am still a proud Clemson Tiger! But some of us believe that this will not be the case, and we will return to the pinnacle.
