Currently attending a work conference and met the wife of a current offensive staff member for our football team. I won’t reveal this staff member to protect their identity so take this as you will.
I asked her how involved is the HC in offensive play calling. She said 110% without any hesitation. She advised that if Dabo and Garrett don’t like the calls from the booth, they will turn their headsets off or change the frequency. She said that Dabo is completely satisfied with a 9 win season as long as he has the loyalty he wants from his staff, players graduate, etc etc. Said loyalty was his most important desire, which would explain all of the former player, friend, etc hires.
Most shocking to me was the fact that she told me that all of the offensive staff will work on game plans and practice game plans starting on Monday, but when Dabo comes to Thursday walk through, if he doesn’t like the game plan, he will wipe it clean and start over.
This lady is a Clemson grad. and I don’t personally know her other than meeting her today. I don’t see any reason for her telling me untrue information and honestly this makes a lot of sense to some of our current issues.

that the HC is somehow wrong for being involved. DABO FIRED Napier because the offense wasn't being ran the WAY the HC wanted. EVER SINCE then, IT HAS BEEN. SHUT the Efff UP

I’m not saying it’s wrong that he’s involved at all. I’m just telling you about a conversation I had. However, if he truly is showing up on Thursday and starting over with an offensive game plan, how can you expect 18-22 year olds to implement that in 2 days?

because much of what we do doesn’t seem like something an offensive coordinator would do. Certainly not one of the highest paid OCs in college football who oversaw a very successful offense at TCU the year before we hired him.
Of course, Dabo is allowed to be as involved as he wants to, but it doesn’t reflect well on him since our offense stinks.

I’ve never bashed Dabo and actually appreciate him as our head coach. Do I think he needs to make some changes? Yes. Do I like the fact that he values turning boys into men and runs the program on values? Yea I do.
I’m not bashing the man, but I don’t see this scenario or a similar one out of the realm of possibilities either.

They really should shut the football program down. It was better with Tommy West at this point. This is what happens when you let a real estate man “coach.” I mean, he doesn’t know ANYTHING about football. He just pretends. It’s why he not only destroyed the MIGHTY Clemson football program, but he ran it under the ground and then buried it under losing records and A SHE SHE pride. I mean what has he even accomplished? My big, fat, non-playing football self could fix things in a week or less. I remember watching high school football and listening to former high school greats talk about all that’s wrong. I learned SOOOO much. Maybe Dabo could learn something if he were smart enough to hang out with those dudes from TNET and Finebaum callers (I’ve learned a TON by watching Paul everyday at 3:00. What has Dabo ever done on a football field? He sucks. Clemson football sucks. Major changes need to be made this off season. Every coach should be fired except Matt Luke. Why? Because he was an SEC coach. That’s just makes him better. Period. Shoot, just look at those championships he won down there at the University of Mississippi. I sure wish we were a good football program like they have in Oxford, MS or Columbia, SC. Now, those are programs with some pride, and they have a great history of winning. We should copy them, but we won’t.
I’ll be watching close this off season, but if changes aren’t made and WE lose ANY game next year, I’ll take my non-IPTAY, non-alum, fair weather butt and pull for a REAL winner. I’m FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!! This year was a failure before August was even over. Nothing good has happened or is going to happen. They should hold “voluntary” practices the next three weeks before they play in the Dookie Mayo Bowl. Nothing to play for this year but some stupid bowl trophy. Nothing! What a waste.

Sonny Dykes is the mastermind of SMU’s offense having learned at the knee of Mike Leach at Texas Tech. Don’t think for a moment he isn’t highly involved in the offense and system HE brought to SMU.
I think one of the reasons Riley is struggling is he no longer has that expertise and experience to lean on.

I wouldn’t call it a trick play. They were attempting to run a reverse, but probably ill advised since we were moving the ball well at the time. That may have been the time to be more conservative rather than let three players handle the ball.

I did agree it was ill advised, if not dumb in that situation. Too many things can go wrong when three players handle the ball. I guess a lot of people consider it a trick play, but I tend to think of trick plays as flea flickers or half back passes and the like.

Sure, things are always tweaked throughout the week but he does not walk in blindly on Thursday and change the plan. He is aware from Day 1.
