If Clemson needed doubters, we have good news

Good news, Clemson football — you can start playing the “everyone’s doubting us” card again. We are just two weeks into the season, but an uninspired performance Saturday has brought out the doubt about the program. Full Story »

Robbie,

Sorry my friend, while your thoughts and comments in the article made for a good read, I still had to give you only a '4' for this article. For an 'award winning journalist' to use terms like "...bared no resemblance to...", or: "...Watson hasn't had that same dynamism..", along with: "...hasn't exactly incentivized him to throw...", well, they just seem a little too much. (I did however, give you a 'pass' on "hyperbolic praise" ... ;).

Again, my apologies - perhaps the Tiger's struggles have gotten me just a little snarky - but please accept as constructive criticism?

GO TIGERS!!!

Uncle Bill,

I'm always open to criticism, so thank you for your thoughts. My only defense is that I was approaching this as a column, so naturally I took some liberties with flowery language. I probably could've toned it down a little bit, though. I'm glad you found some enjoyment in the read.

Robbie, I thought you summed up the situation very well

It's "bear resemblance"

Sep 12, 2016, 10:44 AM [ in reply to Re: New Story: If Clemson needed doubters, we have good news ]

Or in your sentence "bore no resemblance to".

Unless that's a TNet-ism I've missed.

uh did you see him play last year.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, this year too.

Sep 12, 2016, 8:11 AM

He was awful last week. That said, I am kind of messing around. I want all the players to be challenged.

Re: Yes, this year too.

Sep 12, 2016, 11:31 AM

I don't think he's over rated, and I base that on his performance last year against much better talent (he held up his end of the log in every game, and if you think ND, AL, FSU, UNC et. al. were poor challenges, I don't. Our focus or our effort last week was poor, no doubt, but I don't question the ability. I hope the last couple of weeks have been a huge wake-up call, though. If not, we have a bad some bad days coming, and the saddest part is, I think we are better than, or at least equal to, the competition in almost every position. It takes more than just the eye test and laurels, though.

Sep 13, 2016, 2:25 PM

Last year was just that, "last year." It doesn't help one bit this year. Last week Hyatt looked as if he were just going through the motions. He sure wasn't playing like an All American, that's for sure.

I didn't think the face of Memorial Stadium was for participating

12 game seasons haven't really been around for too long
The ACCCG is still young
And having to win the orange bowl just to PLAY for the championship is tough

I think winning 14 straight just to play for a championship is going to be very rare and probably will prove to be worthy of that honor

First: This article is a great article -- very well written-- the two plays the writer uses to pin point the issue of the last two games has no better example.

I am reminded of the movie the Night At the Roxberry that my then 15 year old son made me watch because it was in his eyes at the time the greatest movie on earth. Glad I watched it even though I was merely patronizing him. The father in the movie when asked by a friend about one of his sons replied, "Do you mean the one with his head in the clouds or do you mean the one with his head up his ...?".

I use that line often but paraphrase-- sometimes paradoxically one can have one's head in the clouds and in one's .... all at the same time.

The good news is I thinke we still have a shot at a Night at the Roxberry.

I don't have any doubt in this football team , or the staff . If others have doubts about our validity as a top tier team they can cash in their fan card as far as the Tiger is concerned .
Are ther performance and possibly preparation issues that need to be cleaned up ? Absolutely . Is this team overrated ? Not a chance .
I have complete faith that this team and it's abilities will translate to the field this weekend and every scheduled game after that in 2016 . Too good not to , too well coached not to .
I think this is a playoff team , who has started slow but will finish and leave it all on the field , win or lose !
I don't care about who thinks we can't , I think we can and thus far we have . Period.

I feel like the team is there, they need to put it together. Played a lot of young players who need the experience. Watson was awful from start including last week. Stop the huraughing until the team does better. What happened on the return, couldn't wait till he got to the back of the end zone and show off. Remember you are not great till you play great. Rright now there iss no heisman candidate or any candidate on the team.. Come on guys get it together.

Personally, I understand uncle Bill's rebuke as a very die hard Clemson man or fan. I'm usually one of the first that would do my best to melt down the laptop that you used to type the article. Don't worry, I'm not going after your jugular this morning bc I don't have any answers or any excuses for the way my Clemson FB team is playing right now considering the talent we are loaded with even though a lot of that talent is young. If I had to come up with one good reason to the why and what has happen up to this point with our team I couldn't be absolute. I did read a post prior to this article that made a lot of sense to me, and for the sake of searching for answers I'm inclined to going with what this poster believes. When you consider the season this team just come off of, and the way this offense is playing now with basically the same personnel aided with the return of star WR Mike Williams. The kind of talent and experience we have on offense don't turn sour, nor do they forget how to play FB. Knowing this makes you ask what in the world has happen from the end of last season to the beginning of this season. The only answer it could be, is what an earlier poster mentioned, "Apathy", Without the dynamic leadership of Eric Mac Lain on that offensive line has left those guys without the feeling of that cheerleader leadership that everybody on the offensive line looked up to and trusted. They are missing that void without knowing what is missing. He may not have been the best player on our O Line, but he provide the type of leadership that his teammates look up to and trusted, now it's gone. Now it's time for our coaches to fine another very vocal leader on our offense that can motivate his team mates as Eric Mac Lain could.

as if a rocking chair rocked over our Tiger Tail. Sorry to SC ST but you are the closest and we can't help it. Best case scenario being undefeated, that is. Cowherd "unpicking" us is Awesome.

I remember at least 1 Tajh season we trailed in the 4th Qtr in our 1st 4 games I think. I'm not a doubter so I'm bad news.
