Is Grisham dodging Dabos calls?

1

Jan 2, 2024, 10:43 AM

Now that the Bowl game is over and Signing Day has brought the Tigers two big time WRs, does Dabo make another move to improve his staff? I would love to see him do it, but don’t know who would be the target.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo probably understands that our WR room was freshmen and sophomores

and injured after all of the last of Jeff Scott's poor recruiting classes transferred out. This will be the first Spring and Summer that he has had a chance to work with and develop a full room of 10 guys who aren't entirely underclassmen and/or injured.

We got 10 guys and none scare you.

If you think Cole Turner is going to save this group then you are fooling yourself.

I am hoping the freshman ball out, it seems to be the new pattern.

To understand the injuries our WRs have had.

True. We need a coach who can develop size, speed, strength, skill and

You mean the Ladson and Collins development program?

1

Jan 2, 2024, 1:17 PM [ in reply to If you think all of our receivers suck and can't develop and improve with ]

Also, you need to stop putting words in my mouth. I didn’t say they suck, I said none scare you.

Forgive me if I don’t see future NFL receivers in this WR room, healthy or not.

"If you think Cole Turner is going to save this group then you are fooling

yourself." Talk about putting words in someone's mouth.

I do get a kick out of people who think they know that kids are talented and just aren't developed properly. Ladson, for instance, was a Jeff Scott recruit who transferred to Miami and has now transferred again. I assume you believe he is a star who wasn't developed by either the Clemson staff, including Dabo, or the Miami staff and will find his game under the excellent tutelage of the UMASS coaching staff before starring in the NFL.

2025 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Turner hasn't shown us anything but one long pass catch against UNC

3

Jan 2, 2024, 1:51 PM

....so how do you even know he is going to be the one to elevate this room even close to what we used to have?

He is probably about the same as the rest of the WR room, solid, but there is no one who really pressures a secondary and someone you need to scheme against.

Like I said, I don't see a future NFL WR in this room. You can be optimistic about the freshman all you want, but I don't get why thinking Williams and Turner at full strength is going to turn this group into Amarie, Ross, and Higgins.

They're a solid group, but there's no one who truly scares you.

2025 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm now questioning your reading comprehension.***

Tyler Brown is an NFL guy out of the slot by the way.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think you can make that evaluation just yet.

Jan 3, 2024, 1:04 PM

We can hope he develops into an NFL guy, but now? No way.

I'm still curious about Noble Johnson. It's been mums the word. I know he was injured but he should have been practicing with scout team by now and we haven't heard anything about great catches.

I think Hanafin might be better than people know at this point. He had high praise from people reviewing our last recruiting class. According to many, Patt-Henry could play a big WR role with Briningstool, Sapp, Bentacur at TE.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dabo probably understands that our WR room was freshmen and sophomores

2

Jan 2, 2024, 2:48 PM [ in reply to Dabo probably understands that our WR room was freshmen and sophomores ]

Jeff Scott's poor recruiting classes? What, did he just have an amazing hit rate on his guys from Sammy Watkins to Justyn Ross, but magically, his last class was a dud? Or maybe, Tyler Grisham just isn't good at developing. I can see 1-2 guys not meeting their potential, but when you've got high 4/5 star guys like Ladson, EJ Williams, Ngata, Collins, etc, that all flame out, maybe it's not the talent being busts, but rather then developer being a bust. The only WR group that seems to have a pulse under Grisham has been the slot guys, which is unsurprising as Grisham was a slot receiver, unfortunately, the rest of our receivers tend to play small like slot guys as well. They hardly get separation and they don't high point, or fight for contested balls. Add that on top of all the drops or tipped balls straight in the air, and our atrocious perimeter blocking, and it would seem that year 5 under Mr. Grisham would be nut cuttin time and proving if he deserves to be on the staff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, you think Ladson, Williams, Ngata and Collins are all great players

Jan 2, 2024, 3:16 PM

that were not developed by Grisham and Swinney or Miami or Indiana. Do you see Collins lighting it up at Notre Dame?

Re: So, you think Ladson, Williams, Ngata and Collins are all great players

Jan 2, 2024, 8:16 PM

Not sure, but what I am sure of, is that Jeff has a track record of recruiting and developing NFL WR’s, while Grisham, has yet to develop 1. Also, since he’s been here, our fundamentals are less than sound. A lot of HC’s don’t get 5 years to prove themselves.

Jeffs, last couple class had a lot of misses in it. I don't know if it was talent or development. Hopefully it won't take Dabo 4 years to fix it.

Re: Is Grisham dodging Dabos calls?

Jan 2, 2024, 11:07 AM

Dabo is a former wide receivers position coach, I wonder if that plays in any way into what's going on with our WRs? Maybe that's why he hasn't fired Grisham, he's taking an active hand in helping coach the position? Or am I just being stupid?

2025 purple level membertnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Is Grisham dodging Dabos calls?

Jan 2, 2024, 2:56 PM

Wondered the same but at some point there has to be some accountability for the coaching. The blocking stinks, the route running is questionable and drops are too common. Then we have the passing game coordinator Richardson that I have no clue as to his involvement with the techniques but something development wise is lacking for multiple years. Not sure our TEs are developing at the right rate either at least in blocking which may get better with Luke around just by osmosis.

It appears you think Dabo was waiting until after guys signed their LOI to fire Grish. Based on what we know about Dabo, what makes you think he would plan this slight-of-hand? Would seem out of character to me....

Lol, ok "Fire Everyone" guy. He just recruited 2 of the best players in the country, and his WR room was much better this year. It's taken him a couple years to flush those last 2 classes full of certified busts Jeff Scott brought in.

How long is it going to take you internet experts to figure out that every coach Dabo has fired recently, his replacement has been worse. Once Dabo starts listening to the message board experts and doing what the donors say, the end is near.

He could have pulled a Brian Kelly and fired him after signing day. Kelly fired 4 defensive coaches including the DC. I wonder if any saw it coming especially after winning their bowl game.
