In this single circumstance, it worked to our benefit and it worries me that Riley was having to be told to run the ball more when that was CLEARLY the best way for us to win the game
On the other hand, if you are going to bring in a coordinator and pay them 2milion dollars, you need to step out of the way. If you feel you have to micro manage that guy, either you don't have the right guy, or you are being a control freak
I don't mind head coaches stepping in and making final decisions that they feel must be made, but if you are doing it to a point that you are interrupting an offensive coordinators gameplan it could lead to big problems

Controlling the game means no offensive touchdowns? Settling for fumble return and fieldgoals is enough? Hire a leading coordinator of the modern game and second guess him? Glad we won but it was a snoozer of a game.

I am afraid we just don’t have the QB for slinging it around even taking into account the issues at receiver. Problem is our offensive system needs a Boyd or Watson or Lawrence who can sling it but also run. Cade might get closer next year but needs a lot of growth and a QB whisperer. Vizzina is pro style and not the runner but I do expect him to push Cade. I expect improvement from Cade but afraid I don’t see 11 or 12 wins next year. We have lots of work to do on offense. It cost us 2-3 games this year. Maybe we get that down to 1-2 next year.

Why doesn’t someone ask Dabo why will he do different ext season on offense. Cade is not 5 star QB. We will be A mediocre team unless offense improves.

Yes bc they had a 3 man front dropping 8. We should’ve ran more early than we did.

I think that his comments were more of an indictment on Cade. Also, he doesn’t want a repeat of last year when our former OC should have kept running the ball.

There's no way Cade should have been slinging it around last night. We are lucky he only had the 1 int.

Yep, probably why we run so many worthless lateral plays.

They are "safe" in Dabo's eyes. "Just like a handoff" as he's said before.

I don't think it was a sign of anything other than a head coach doing his job managing the game.

Dabo's ~ $10 million trumps Riley's $2 million and I think going into the game, Dabo knows what kind of team he has. Running the ball, clock control and defense was the way to go last night.
And the Tigers won.

his team's overall game plan like Dabo did last night. We were more loose on O in the first half and out of the gates in the 2nd when we promptly went up by 2 scores. From that point on, we weren't going to do anything to beat ourselves, while shutting SCar down over and over. That time of possession number we had last night was exactly how Spurrier manhandled us regularly over his big run. We totally sucked the oxygen out of SCar's offense by not giving them any momentum. That was a big boy W last night and great to be on the right side of that game for the year ahead.
Go Tigers!

Maybe, just maybe....

.... there was a game plan that called for a better mix of passes and runs.
And, maybe - just maybe, as the game went along it became clear that the defense was totally controlling the game and the best option was to run the ball and not risk a turnover.
Maybe, just maybe, Riley was asking Dabo between offensive series, "Do you want to stick with the game plan?" and Dabo said, "No, just run the ball."
Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't any disagreement between Riley and Dabo, but just the OC and HC affirming they were on the same page.

"I love to throw the ball, I love throwing around, but I don’t think I’ve ever said 'no' more than I have tonight because the type of game it was. Just felt like we had great control of it."
“Saying no more than I have tonight” doesn’t sound like 2 guys in agreement…

I just looking at it from a different perspective.
Maybe Dabo was talking about saying no to himself. "Dabo, I like to throw the ball." "No, Dabo, you don't need to do that." "Dabo, can I throw it a little more than I am now." "No, Dabo, just keep running the ball."
Maybe he was having to keep telling himself, as much as Riley, not to throw the ball.

I read his lips when he was yelling at Riley during a time out. Dabo said: "No throws. I don't want to throw the ball." That lets you know right there who is running this decrepit offense.

I get it, Cade never seems to even have a rhythm or look comfortable, let alone in control. The running game looked consistent, so thats what he gave thumbs up to. Somehow, Cade has gotten off on the wrong foot-forcing every play and acting like every play is a last-ditch effort to win the game that he has to hold on to the ball and make happen “or else.” Part of his early experience on field was coming in after Big Cinco had stunk it up and we were down, and it molded him, apparently, into a frantic nervous wreck of a game manager who can’t see the forest for the trees. He’s either got to move on to somewhere with less talent, less pressure, and less opposition and play easier ball, or reset and relax and realize he has to get rid of it within 2.5 and throwing it away early is totally allowable and will help the coaches engage with the receivers.
