Penn State seems unlikely.

Saban retired at what - 71? 6 or 7 years is a decent time for a head coach

a dumpster fire at Penn State that needs rebuilding? He and Franklin were scheduled to make the same $8 million this year.

Indiana is going to lock him up with a bigger contract soon.

That’s the amount of money that they might pay him to coach.

I would hardly say that Penn State will be "rebuilding". They have lost some commitments (as has Clemson) but if they hire a successful "name" coach they'll be just fine...

Saban will never come out and say it directly but he retired from football because of the chaos coming. After Bama’s last game Saban’s last year, Kids coming back into NIL and the TP started asking Coach Saban about how much money did he think they could make once the NIL money started rolling. Then as they had done many times, the Saban’s had recruits and their families over for breakfast. Saban to the recruits and their Dads out, while Teri Saban met with all of the moms.

Unlike other breakfast meals at the Saban’s this time most of the questions revolved around NIL and what would Bama do to promote their sons so they could make more money from NIL.

Per my friend who knew the Saban’s he had heard that Teri was already feed up with the direction new college athletics was heading. I don’t know for sure but she may have nudged an already frustrated Saban to retire and enjoy life.

This is where NIL has really hurt Dabo’s program. When recruiting if Dabo could build a relationship with the moms and many of the Dads to he was very successful in getting the kid.

Now recruiting is mostly Greed which has consumed entire families. They get so focused on earning potential for their kid. They are no longer as focused on the priorities that matter. Education, building a kid into a man. The very culture and values that defined Dabo’s and Clemson’s philosophy. Then the kid chased the 💰💰💰. Finds out he made the wrong decision or is chasing a bigger payday so he ends up in the TP.

IMO, You can’t build kids into men who live in the TP looking for greener pastures 💰💰💰💰💰💰. I think this is one reason why Dabo has hesitated to use the portal. He is trying to build sustainable success and help kids realize their potential after football is over.

Teams who live in the TP I don’t think can build sustainable success. They are up one year and down for 2 or 3 years. What will Miami have to do to repeat this seasons success into next season ??? Is it possible to become dependent on the TP ???

Someone posted that the future of college football as it is now is not economically sustainable. I would agree that post.

Miami will fall off. They can't just keep hoping a QB drops in their lap and don't do anything with it. IE Cam Ward. 1st overall pick but that team fell on it's face.

That team had a bad defense

They have that fixed that year. This Miami team is really, really good up front on both sides of the ball. They aren't going to be the up and down, inconsistent team they were last year.

He's getting $8m at Indiana now. If they bump that up to 10/11, why would he ever leave?

He has a chance to retire as a legend.

Indiana football is historically worse than Duke or Wake. Last year was Indiana's first ever 10 win season. First 9 win season since 1967.

At Penn State he would have huge pressure immediately

That doesn't make any sense. He hasn't even been at Indiana for 2 seasons yet.

My point is - stating that his age is a deterrent is nonsense. He's currently coaching at a high level in the Big10 and turned Indiana around in 1 season. At age 63. That's exactly the type of background Penn State would be looking for, and him being 65 would be irrelevant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The obvious point is that his age is a deterrent for him not Penn State.

Penn State was 13-3 last year after playing 3 College Football Playoff Games. Franklin was fired 6 games later in the middle of the season.

A reasonable person could decide that coaching at Indiana is better for their life, and their family’s life, and even their short- and long-term success, than coaching at Penn State.

the PSU job at that age. Who knows what kind of roster you'd inherit with transfers and lost recruits. He's already making 8 million a year, can't possibly need more money. No way I'd jump into that fire at that age.

He would be successful immediately.

He just need follow the formula he used at Indiana.

When he left JMU he took the heart of that team with him to Indiana

It would be a heckuva lot easier with the history they have.

He’s the hottest coach in the nation right now and recruits will jump at the chance to play for him

The only football coach active or inactive out there
that would fit the current short and long term
at Penn State ( Timing, The Fit, and The "IT"
Factor ) IMHO would be Jon Gruden. Here's
hoping Miami Dolphins gives him a shot/second
chance and he's back in NFL as HC. Coach Saban
would be my top pick but the timing is just
not there.
