Just looking to see what people think. Please leave the torches and pitchforks at the door. Thanks.

I think the "College" was chartered as a land grant public institution. Thus, I don't think it could "go private". But, I am not a lawyer, but I did stay at a...

with T.G. Clemson's will or otherwise doable, but if we're only getting 10% of our revenue from the state, let's go private and tell groups like FRFF to go pound sand.

Going private just because the football coach is religious is a ridiculous notion.

Not changing because "that's the way it's always been done"

is a lousy excuse.
It's probably not allowed in the school's charter however.

public, we shouldn't go private.
I agree that there needs to be more of a reason than just to get these FFRF idjits off our backs.

I'm no lawyer, but I think it is possible for Clemson to go private, but it wouldn't be a good idea, since even 10% of the budget (the percentage the State provides) is a lot of money to give up.
Thomas Green Clemson's Will provided for Clemson to be private if the State declined to accept the gift. If the State stopped supporting the school, It strikes me that the Will would kick in and the school would go private.

I was not aware that the will contained such language, but I appreciate the contribution everyone has offered. I need to go find a copy of the will online. Just a curiosity thing.

Better. And if you have about $500mm lying around to get our endowment to 1B, they can vote to do it Friday.

Many of the other ACC institutions are private and it does not hurt them athletically and gives them better autonomy over academics and research. But, it is a big chunk of revenue lost that needs to be found somewhere if a move like that were to be considered.
