In a manner of speaking, DJ is right.

A great number of Tnetters complained about our offensive calls being vanilla last season. I didn't complain about it because I agree with DJ. Our coaches didn't trust DJ.
To be fair to Dabo and Brandon, they, along with every defensive coach and player on the field with DJ saw him guessing which option to run before the snap, stare down his primary receiver and knew he went brain dead unless everyone played 'FAIR,' and let him alone.
Dabo and Brandon dumbed down our offense so much that a caveman could have been a successful quarterback in the scheme. DJ statement shows a critical lack of self awareness.

Dabo saw what DJ saw...........neither were good enough to stay at Clemson.

…Streeter’s “scoop of vanilla”.
Reading that the number offensive plays have been reduced and reduced motion in receivers, how is this new offense so much more non-vanilla?

DJ really complained that we did not trust him to throw the ball in the second half of games after going 3-16 for 13 yards an INT and not complete a pass beyond the line of scrimmage in the second half of the Scar game.
DJ's awareness skills are 0!

DJ had two good games last year

WF and FSU
Other than that, he was good for at least one bone-headed play every game. Coaches kept it simple because they thought we were just good enough to get through the regular season with wins with a vanilla offense...
Then ND happened, then the SCar game happened, where the defense couldn't bale us out, an dumb headed plays all around were the fare of the day.
We should have been able to skate through last regular season with just average QB play. We weren't even close to getting that. They had to bring the offense down to his level.
DJ has given Clemson a lot of positive reflections. But the negatives are kind of in response to his play, whether he will admit it.

to his being justifiably critical of the offense. The offense clearly struggled. Anyone who watched could see that. The problem is, while there was plenty of blame to go around, DJ didn't take any responsibility for it while being a major part of the problem.

post, DJ couldn't even handle plain vanilla. No way would you have him attempt strawberry with sprinkles, after flunking plain vanilla.

We have had our fill of "Rocky Road" the last couple years, hopefully we move on to some "Heavenly Hash" fairly soon.

I pointed out DJ's deficiencies which led to a dumbed down playbook.

Playcalls had absolutely nothing to do with DJs performance.

DJ is DJ and we created a simple custom designed for his issues. He's incapable of running a complex offense and in reality his struggles had nothing at all to do with the system. Some of you have not idea what you're talking about.
DJ is nothing more than a mouthpiece for his disgruntled dad, who saw his visions of being wealthy from his son. Big Dave needs to shut up. He's wrong and his son is not ever going to earn a dime playing QB at any sort of pro level. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with any system or playcalls. Only a matter of inability. DJs family needs to come to grips with thatm

Was our playbook really “dumbed down” for him?
Apr 25, 2023, 4:48 PM

I don’t really think it was.
The difference from 2020 to 2021-2022 is that we no longer had a generational QB to make our offensive strategy look sound.
Take away a generational QB, and our offensive scheme wasn’t really that great. If it were, Streeter would still be here because Dabo would’ve attributed our issues to DJ.
DJ wasn’t great, but he would’ve done much better in a different system.

You cannot name a modern offense that DJ could thrive under...any QB is supposed to make those around him better...when a QBstands behind the line for 6 seconds and can't find anyone open, you first Blane the line (not with a slow footed QB) or the receivers (they were often wide open and he missed them! Davis Allen would have had 60 catches last year with a real QB...more talking points from big dave!

All I know is he made watching Clemson football almost unbearable for 2 seasons. Seeing Cade light it up in the ACC champ game took me back to the good ole days with DW4 and TL!
