Been thinking the same thing, plenty of nut-cases out there that would sabotage the tracks. On the good side, if they catch anyone doing it they will be back on the streets before the conductor gets off shift.

They are saying that a new company selling the rail cars are producing shotty cars. Or that's what I heard reported on the news, and all of them was ordered to shut down for recall with a bearing being issue...

No, it's not shotty cars. I live in Ohio, know MANY Norfolk/Southern maintenance workers were let go about 2 years ago. They fired over 40 in my hometown and shut down the maintenance facility. Now sh!t is breaking. This isn't rocket science. Deferred or ignored maintenance begets a sh!tshow.

Man, I’m guessing they have just started to really report on them. Just don’t remember hearing a whole lot about trains and derailments.

React to if they report on it. The news goes through these cycles now. Like during the BLM days in 2020, there was a huge focus on police encounters with black people. Feels like that hasn’t been on the news in months.
All about what is in at the current moment

There's a big difference between a derailment that involves a few empty box cars and those that involved 25 tankers full of toxic chemicals that catch on fire. Or derailments that kill 50 people on a passenger train. Just saying "there's 1500 derailments every year" doesn't do much to quantify whether there are more serious derailments than usual, which at first blush appears to be the case, but which may be just about the in-your-face-24/7 news cycles.

It is no different than that time when all the police officers starting shooting unarmed black men.
And then they just stopped shooting them.

This country’s largest manufacturer of rail cars……got a new CEO 3 years ago, after being run first the father & then the son for about 60 years. The new CEO’s first act was to fire employees with multiple decades of experience and pocket the savings. As long as she gets paid, who cares?

Seems it has been more like five derailments. And good old ###### buttigeig is no where to be found.
God, this site has gotten so spineless and woke. Insert woodpecker into the blank and then use your imagination.

96 food processing plants blow up in one year, trains derailing all over the country, planned shortages of hundreds of products, wide open border to crash the welfare state.......all part of the plan. Read Saul Alinsky or Cloward & Piven. It is plainly laid out in both books in black and white.

Terrorists walking across our southern border. Immediately receive a government check, food stamps, Medicaid, and free housing. So we are essentially paying the terrorists for being here. MY, my, my, what an absolute ignorant bunch of politicians in D.C.

There's nothing to be suspicious about. Our rails are old and outdated and this country isn't doing anything to fix it.

And the rails are firing employees in maintenance to raise short term profits to elevate the stock prices to get bonuses. This really started 3-4 years ago. Ask anyone working for Norfolk Southern.

happened last year!
I looked into it after the Ohio chemical spill due to the derailment.
I have always thought that the track gage was very small relative to the size cars that travel on them. Turns out that this spacing is in part based on the width of a Roman chariot. When Britian/Europe started building trolleys, they used different spacings, but the ruts in the old Roman roads were the spacing of the chariot wheels, and any other spacing caused wheel and axle failures since it would put the wheels both in and out of the ruts. They then switched the gage of all of the trolleys to be closer to that of the chariot, and this fixed their problem. When Railroads came around, it was the same builders who built the trolley ways. These guys already had jigs and tooling, etc set up for that spacing, so they kept the old spacing.
I thought that story couldn't possibly be true...did some fact checking....
Think about how many cars, SUVs, and trailers would tip over if the wheel spacing was the same 4' +/- as a train car!
