I'm sorry, but if these pitching sequences were being called

May 7, 2022, 6:26 PM

from the dugout, we need a new pitching coach YESTERDAY. I make no claims to be a baseball seer, but I could tell you exactly what the sequence was going to be, because it repeats itself over and over and over. Get way ahead in the count, and then waste pitch, waste pitch, waste pitch, and then, on full count, either issue the walk, or give up a gopher ball.

If EYE can see it, you know darn well the opposing coaches can see it.

One of the things that made Greg Maddux so successful as a pitcher was that he NEVER just totally wasted pitches. His "misses" were always close enough that either the umps gave him an out on a generous strike zone, or the hitter had to at least offer at it.

This Clemson team, sad to say, just does NOT know how to close out games. Yes, we won, but it should NEVER have gotten anywhere close to the point of having the tying run at the plate, which it did. So, so frustrating to watch as a fan.

Yep. They were great at getting two strikes, but just seemed afraid to throw strike three. The hitting definitely carries this team. And the Tigers play great at Kingsmore, but are very weak on the road. They need to sweep tomorrow to stay alive for any post season play, IMHO.

If the kids could throw the pitch where they wanted to or were supposed to, they would be in professional baseball. Why is it always the coach?

Because these “wannabe” coaches who think they are professional baseball gurus aren’t happy unless they are crying and whining about something. Even when we win they are not happy. They are a miserable lot and in their puny minds think they know all there is to know about baseball. Sadly, they really know very little.

It is the coach in college baseball now, because, if you pay

May 8, 2022, 7:41 AM [ in reply to Re: I'm sorry, but if these pitching sequences were being called ]

attention at all, the pitchers are constantly consulting those little "computer" belt buckle screens before throwing every pitch. The catcher wears an earpiece to pick up the same signal. This was done to prevent "sign stealing", as well as speed up the game, since catchers used to look to the dugout, get the signal for the pitch from the coach, and then relay it to the pitcher.

This (coaches calling the game, not catchers) is the "standard" for college baseball, whether those who want to accuse others of being "wannabe" coaches want to admit it or not. So, sequence of pitches IS on the pitching coach, or whichever coach is in control of that in the dugout. If that's not the pitching coach, then why do you even have one?

And as for the other comment about "If kids could throw the pitch where they want to all the time, they would be in the major leagues", again, rules say WRONG. Once you come to college, you aren't eligible for the baseball draft for three more years. But, of course, all you supremely knowledgeable fans already knew that, you're just trying to be horse's ars$es on a message board. I don't often respond to such sophomoric crap, but hey, sometimes it's worth it.

It’s def going to be interesting today .
If I were the coaches I would almost let Anglin pitch a inning or Two if needed . Can’t run out pitchers in a close game and just hope they get lucky. I mean the 2 or 3 that they know will walk batters and give up runs every time . GT is fighting for a post season also and today we must get decent pitching.

The announcers always talk about "pitching to contact".

May 8, 2022, 7:55 AM

We know what they mean, but we sure were pitching to contact the last couple of innings yesterday, with nearly catastrophic results.

Butt, most importantly, we won. Now, we need to go out and win again today. This team, this season has not had many chances to sweep series, making this chance pay off today against a ranked GT would be a huge shot in the arm for our ACC Tournament and NCAA postseason chances.
