As even the bozo announcers said, you have an indicater the guy lowers his head not even trying to look up launches and hit the QB with the crown of the helmet.

The helmet did not hit in the typical targeting area, but watching him lower his head and launch into the tackle was definitely textbook targeting

I guess no one knows what targeting is. If that was not, then just take it out of the rulebook. ACC got toasted last week for the Va Tech call and will get roasted for this one. And Miami will still be 3-0, ACC 2-0 fora 5-0 record

But it looked to me that the bulk of the contact was on the shoulder. I can see it being called, but honestly it’s the kind of play that I don’t want called.
I wanted Miami to lose, but I also want players to be able tackle a runner with a hard hit and not have targeting negate that unless its obvious and clear.

Doesn't matter where most of the contact is as long as there is forcible contact to the head and neck area. He lowers his head, launches, and I would certainly call the contact to Mendoza's head forcible.

Lowering the head and hitting with the crown of the head are the qualifiers here. The rules are trying to protect the tackler.

Player beyond 10 yards is a runner. Defense job is stop runner. Ahole announcers never played a snap do not understand defense. A shoulder tackle might include part of her helmet.

Look up the rule on targeting ama then watch the video. It is the textbook definition of targeting.

Top of the helmet hit the side of the runners helmet.

Helmet to helmet contact with the crown of the helmet making the contact.
That is the classic definition of targeting
