biggest threat in recruiting in the next 3 years?
UNCheat seems to be locking up elite recruits there and this is not good for Clemson.
Miami seems to be doing the same in South Florida.
We, however, have been making in roads in Georgia--something we have not done in decades.
Tennessee used to come into SC and take talent but they have not made in-roads here since they have been down.
Clemson really needs to lock down in-state talent (lots has gone to Coots lately), pillage Georgia, take what they can haul out of Florida, and make a new concerted effort in North Carolina IMHO.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since I am from the 'old school' I would say that the Tigers need to go up north and bring in some of those bad #### coal miners as coach Howard once did! I don't care where they come from but I would like to see a few 300 pounders who are mean on Saturdays come to Tigertown.
I do feel like the tarholes are starting to become a problem and that disturbs me greatly. This Hood kid that we let get away was the answer to a lot of questions.

I don't get why kids would choose UNC.....well.....maybe I do
But seriously, what kind of stud recruits want to play second fiddle to the basketball players?? And feel lucky to win 7-8 games a season? Whatever
RJ Prince is one we lost to them that comes to mind....hope he enjoyed the Belk Bowl

They can get through college at UNC without ever having a real class to go to, and make straight A's in it.

just because the coots get one 4 or 5 star in state player doesn't mean they out recruit us in state. Besides a number of the instate players SCU gets would never academically qualify at Clemson. By the way we still recruit good in North Carolina. Seems like you don't keep up with recruiting at all. Which is obvious by the fact you think UNC is locking down top recruits in NC. NC is nothing but a state where other teams through out the southeast pillage all of the NC talent.

The funny thing about South Carolina

We rarely actually have recruiting battles with them. Clowney was the last one where it may have been in doubt. Usually it just depends on if you grew up a Clemson fan or a Gamecock fan, if your high school coach was a Clemson fan or a Gamecock fan, or if your family was a Clemson fan or a Gamecock fan.

the Palmetto State.
Unless they are lured out of state, most good players from South Carolina know exactly where they are going from birth.
Both SCAR and Clemson "offer" them all, but it's mainly for show.

South Carolina has been lucky to have a few 5* recruits grow up in their recruiting area. It appears that the spigot has been turned off. We are much better at going into other states and signing top talent.

yet UNC sold out their football on the academic studies fraud thing to protect hoops. That is what they need to be hit with on the football recruiting trail.

You are really enraptured with the Ford Era of the 1980's aren't you? Sorry, but those days came and went.

I'm confused

We get our share of South Carolina talent, but we are never going to "lock up" Coot infested regions, same as the Coots are never going to come into a place like Daniel and lock up any of that talent.
4* in state talent:
2013: 10 4* players
Clemson - 1 USC - 3
Funny thing is Miller should be a Gamecock but you guys got mad at this dad and sent him to Bama. Clemson never had a shot
Park is #2, but you guys had more interest in that kid you lost to Kentucky. We had Watson so we never recruited him.
Clemson is much better at landing top kids from other states. You have been lucky with the amount of talent coming out of Rock Hill recently, but you guys are losing players who should be Gamecock locks to out of state teams.

We came close two years ago with a 4* lineman from Pendleton - lost him to Ohio State.

Hill simply wanted to go to OSU. Something about watching the Buckeyes' band on tv dotting the eye . . . or was it eyeing the dot? Anywasy, he followed the $$$ . . . er, his dream to 'warm weather' Columbus, Ohio. Yech!

not to go to Clemson, but he still couldn't bring himself to go to USCe. I mean, Columbus sucks, but it doesn't suck as hard as Columbia, there are more trees and grass and fewer random shootings. Last I checked there has never been a Gangland Columbus.

The biggest recruiting threat from surrounding states to Clemson right now is an FSU program that might get back to being able to come in a take many top in-state players.

FL and GA continue to be ripe fields for us
Dec 29, 2013, 2:05 PM
|
|
at least through 2015. If you look at who we've locked for 14 and whose list we are high on for 15, I don't see us losing any ground in those two states. Mitch Hyatt is a prime example of top 2015 talent who puts us on or near the top of his list.
It seems a lot of the SC top talent goes out of state, too, as much as to SCar. Anyone put some kind of chart or table together?
I grew up in GA and had family all over GA, SC, and NC (and FL). To me it has always seemed like the same was true for football recruits where families may have moved to another state but ties still existed in past home states. It was no surprise to me that we got Georgia's top QB while UGA got South Carolina's top QB. If you throw in FL, those 4 states share a lot of things it seems.

Ok, in the last 4 years, 4-5* SC high school players
Dec 29, 2013, 2:53 PM
|
|
Staring with the 2014 class in the first position and working back.
South Carolina - 4 - 1 - 1 - 3 Total - 9 Clemson - 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 Total - 7 Alabama - 1 - 0 - 0 - 0 Georgia - 1 - 1 - 0 - 0 F.S.U. - 1 - 0 - 0 - 0 Florida -1 - 0 - 0 - 0 Kentucky -1 - 0 - 0 - 0 O.S.U. - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0 North Carolina - 0- 0 - 1 - 0 South Carolina St. - 0 -0 - 1 - 0 Tennessee - 0 - 0- 0 - 1
So other teams do come in occasionally for our top talent, but in general, it comes down between Clemson and South Carolina.

about getting good recruits from GA and FL. And if Trevion Thompson and Featherston both sign, I guess you can add NC to that list. TN may be a differnt story lately.
