Toss the American flag too. I really could care less but there was more slavery under the American flag than any confederate one. It's silly arguing over dumb crap. Just get it over with and remove it. Are we not just prolonging the inevitable anyway? It's always gonna offend somebody.
There are more important issues, like hunger for one.

My great great grandfather was a confederate hero.

Many years ago he was awarded the highest honor given to confederate soldiers. He is still only one of two SC individuals to receive this honor.
I am a proud southerner. I am proud of my heritage. I also believe the confederate battle flag flying at the state house is decisive and should be taken down.

Heritage by definition is the passing down of property or legacy. I'm from here too, but what exactly are we proud of from the era that is represented by the Confederate Flag?

Many of my ancestors fought and died for the Confederacy and owned some of the largest plantations throughout South Carolina. The Confederacy made it vey clear that slavery was the cause of secession and the war. It's time to get over this heritage crap and dump the flag.

Just take the freaking Battle Flag down so everyone will stop complaining.
Perception is reality. It's like the SEC west being the "greatest division in football history." We all know not that it wasn't, but it didn't matter at the time because of the perception.

The difference is, like people, countries are allowed to evolve. Slavery happened under the American flag, just as it has with many other flags in the world. However when the country was changing, the Confederates were the one who wanted slavery to stay. As a result, whether you like it or not, that became the representative for the population who wants slavery, and then, later, the population who wanted blacks to continue to have various forms of segregation.
